Re: What is the Most Powerfull tool for Seagate Refurbishing

BGman:

This is strange. I have repaired mostly Hitachi drives.Maybe not thousands but several hundreds for sure. They are so easy to fix if the problem is only a number of reallocated sektors....The question is what to do with the others .

I am sorry for my english mistake, i meant Hundreds, but not very far of thousand! :D

My friend, i am not talking about few bad sectors you can repair with Victoria, MHDD, HDAT.... This is about fighting against Monster!!

What tool do you use for Hitachi repair?

Friend Amarbir:
Why say all of this to verify he is saying right or wrong just ask him a few questions about how he is refurb drives and we all will know if he is right or wrong .

I becomed a Sediv user and i am very happy for it.

I tell every body, who has only repaired hdds using free tools and terminal command don't knows nothing about things can do. I did not believe it myself when a friend recommended me to buy Sediv.

I learned for example that a faulty head can do that complete hdd looks bad, a droped or shocked hdd can damage some zones and you can hide that bad zones, a fw can be damage due to bad sectors in SA area and much more. All this trouble you can solve using a pro tool like Sediv.

In Seagate case, unfortunately, Sediv only can cut head for Pharaop, Wyatt, Hepburn, Holliday and not for all fw.

DFL answer me, that they can Cut heads on all 7200.12 hdds, and on next update will can do with 7200.14 too, even more, if there is an unsopported model, i can send them Rom and they will add support for it.

It is very interesting for me, that DFL answer all my question (more than 10) in less than 24 hours, at least looks very good support service, even more, looks like if they have a support department.

The other problem i have is that Sediv can work only with 1 hdd at time while DFL can work with 2 sata and 1 ide at time. If i have 10 hdd 1-2TB for repairing, and i need about 3 days per hdds, then the tenth need to wait about 30 days for repairing, a long time.

I will keep with Sediv, but i think it is good to know other tools and take advantages of each one.

This is the topic.

DFL is pretty good. But not as advanced as sediv in all around refurbishing functions.
DFL is more of a data recovery tool, like PC3K, rather than a refurbishing workhorse.
A clear advantage the DFL tool has over sediv is control of drive power by user.

Does it worth to fight against Monster, my friend? For example, due to WDMarvel, I've got a lot of downsized WD drives ( cut heads, cut zones, ARCO) but nobody is buying them . So, should I buy Software to cut heads of Seagate drives? Or just keep on fixing drives with bad sectors that eventually I can sell?

one thing though, a refurbished 7200.14 will "not" last long

There is a popular jokes here that says: "Time is the only thing not missing in Cuba"

Now seriously. ST3000DM001 it is not the only F3 arch hdd we working with, f3 hdds from Pharaop, Wyatt and Hepburn families can be succesfully repaired with Sediv, until today no one has returned to me.

By other way, here major of cases are for hdd repair and not for datarecovery. Generally data is not important by some reasons i don't go to explain now.

Thousands (and not hundreds) of old 775 motherboards with DDR1 and DDR2 memory modules using IDE or SATA 80, 160 and 250GB hdds are still working here for kids gaming or watch cartoons, movies, Series, Sports, Novels...

Buy a 1TB hdd that cost USD $75-$80 is generally too expensive for normal people, who get by work about $20, 30 or $40 per month, so repair 1TB for $10-$15 with 1-3 months guaranteed it is a very good option.

It is a tradition here even if you has a 1 or 2 TB hdd, using as windows system disk and old 80gb sata or ide hdd. There is substantial difference between quality of older drives and the actuals, even from differents manufacturers, not only Seagate.

By other hand, an old 80GB hdd is about $20-$25, thats why it is a good choice even to repair or refurbish a 1TB hdd downgrading to 80-160GB for $10. As you see, there is a lot of posibilities.

But i confess that ST1000DM001, ST2000DM001 and ST3000DM001 are the main purpose of buying DFL. DFL said me that on next update will support Grenada head cutting. I am doing my own research on Grenada. Even i am reconsidering what Spildits said me on this post (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34925).

Spildit wrote:
Let's say that you have BAD magnetic substract / materials used to make the platter. You now use the drive (platter) and write stuff to it. You place the drive in a shelf and you don't use it for days.

Due to bad materials the magnetic substract/platter loose the properties and the data recorded there is gone. Now you pick up the drive and install on the system to read it. But the data is gone ....

Which it is my Theory?

The high failure rate of Grenada Hdds causing that appears a lot of bad sectors through all surface, more than poor quality substrate used on platters, i think that is due to 1 or more faulty head. If we depop that heads we can back hdd to the life.

Sorry for my ignorance, but i am not completely sure of that... You say that DFL is not focused on refurbishing field, but things i have readed on DFL site about refurbishing i have not seen in any other site, for example:

DFL Hard Drive Refurbishing Suite (http://www.dolphindatalab.com/product/d ... ing-suite/)

DFL Hard Drive Refurbishing Suite is one very professional hard drive refurbishing equipment including both software and hardware and also necessary cables and adapters, firmware resources and manuals.

DFL Hard Drive Refurbishing Suite is used to repair bad sectors, reset smart, remove password, edit HDD ID, repair firmware failures, etc for either desktop or laptop Seagate, WD, Hitachi/IBM, Samsung, Toshiba/Fujitsu hard drives. With this tool, users can refurbish three hard drives at the same time. With the gift power controller board from Dolphin Data Lab, users can refurbish 4 more drives at the same time, more boards, more drives to be refurbished.

WD HDD Repair Ultimate Auto (http://www.dolphindatalab.com/product/w ... mate-auto/)

DFL Auto Servo is the latest western digital hard drive refurbishing hardware tool and users who order this tool get hardware, software and Western digital auto repair firmware resources and also three years’ free software upgrade from Dolphin team.

DFL Auto Servo is able to refurbish multiple WD hard drives at the same time automatically by either online or offline, users can refurbish as many drives as possible by offline hdd repair.

With DFL Auto Servo, users don’t need any hdd refurbishing training or special knowledge, users just need simple clicks and input to get the tool repairing the connected WD hdds automatically: detect hdd ID info auto, diagnose hdd auto, cut zones and reduce capacity auto(if necessary), cut heads auto (if necessary), write rom auto, run arco auto, run selftest auto, etc. After the hdd is repaired, users can edit the Model and SN numbers and complete the refurbishing work.

As you can see DFL is also focused on hdd refurbish.

For Seagate they have DFL-SRP USB3.0 For Seagate. (http://www.dolphindatalab.com/product/d ... pair-tool/)

DFL-SRP for Seagate is one advanced Seagate hard drive firmware repair tool and it supports old and latest 7200.11,12,14 drives.

DFL support department send me a document with 5 refurbishing solutions for all seagate f3 that honestly i have not seen in Sediv yet or apply to a few models only, like Test zones of different heads; Find out which zones of which heads are damaged; Auto adjust head temperatures, if failed, manually adjust; Scan the hdd and find out which zones are bad and then cut the damaged zones; Tick all the zones of the damaged head to cut; Cut ticked zones; and of course, cutting entire heads.

Also they promise that on next update can cut heads for 7200.14 Grenada series.

I don´t know how fast Sediv will support Grenada and other models for head cut, but unlocking fw for newer encrypted models is very important point to keep in mind too.

What do you think?

DFL seems to be a good addition for you then. It is good to have more than one tool.
