What did you use to FORMAT your PC ?
I would bet that you did use some tool that attempted the securiy erase of your drive by setting the ATA password, issue the security erase prepare and security erase unit.
I would bet that something went wrong, like the drive have bad blocks (in big quantity) or you didn't wait for the erase to finish (and the drive was still on BSY when you power it off) leaving you "locked" out of the drive by the password set by the erasing program.
If you did not use any sort of smartware or WD password / encryption software on your drive to "format" or modify the drive in any way then the password set on the drive is a standard ATA password and not a encrypted related key.
If that is the case you can find what password does the software that you use to rease / format the drive uses to lock the drive or you can bypass the password by reading this GREAT (absolutly fantastic) topic about the subject : - http://www.hddoracle.com/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=2353 !!!
Regards and good luck.

Ok, your BIOS did set the ATA password for security erase then.
Use the mentioned methods to remove the password.
WDMarvel can remove the ATA password of your drive by reading it from drive RAM (module 029 and use that password to unlock the drive.
You will eed a system that can run WDMarvel DEMO. If you have 32 bit windows the better if not you need to install the certificate so that it will run the low level I/O driver as signed.
If you do have Windows XP 32 use that as it's the best for this sort of software. Make sure you have BIOS for that SATA port/HDD in IDE/COMPATIBLE mode, run WDMarvel and check if it can see the drive with "detect". If so use the option to remove the password with universal method.
Done.
