I have to disagree with installing XP again, sorry but it is just asking for trouble. Agree with everything else though. Win 7 is only a little better. Unless PC will never connect to the internet.

If you saying that there's no more updates for XP and that could be a reason for not connecting to the internet, I can say I still use XP on my other desktop and never had any issue connecting to the internet or a issue like my wife's desktop. It runs smooth. I don't know what the heck she did on her desktop to behave like that.

what CPU is it? Core2 Duo at a guess.. this will run win10 fine with an SSD.

Yes, with this 1TB seagate video HD.

if money is an issue, even a 120GB boot drive and your new HDD with 0kn (0hrs?) on it as a second drive would be good.

(zero KM) I mean, brand new hd. I don't think it's hd issue because it only happens on boot up moment (keyboard and mouse being blocked). There's an weird issue that I could not figure it out yet.

I do still use XP as well and i don't have issues with it but you must know very well what you are doing and this includes to run ALL instances of software that uses the network like the web browser SANDBOXED and do not run ANY executable at all that might be malware so do not download and run stuff from the internet unless you are 100% sure it's true good software and also DISABLE all SERVICES that you don't need and make sure that you don't have open ports and you are running your system under the protection of a NAT Router / firewall, etc ....

If you are having problems and you do state "Virus?" on your topic then you shouldn't be running XP and you should be running OS that are still updatable against bugs that can be exploited.

XP have SEVERE problems/bugs that were never FIXED and because of that they can be EXPLOITED even by just visiting a maliciouse web site so that code is executed on the machine as executable malware/virus and you are in for pain ....

Unless you take EXTREME measures and i do mean EXTREME like making sure that you run browsers on sandoxes that only allow for the browser itself to execute and don't allow for any write operations and make sure that the process don't interact with other process on the system and that you don't have any open ports that the code can use send data locally exploiting more "problems" to run more arbritary code DO NOT use a system that is NOT UP TO DATE.

You should only run XP if :

1 - It's not connected to the network (INCLUDES LAN) at all,
2- You do know what you are doing and you do have extreme protection in place
3 - You don't care for the system at all and you are using it to test software and you then format/re-install/re-image the system back and you don't care if you loose the data on that system or if the data is stolen by hackers/virus/whatever
4 - You do have software/hardware that only runs on XP or you can't upgarde because of license policy (on the place where i do work there are some "machines" connected to compurters and those machines do have their own software licensed and locked to the XP from the time when they were installed so you can't upgrade without $$$$$$$ new license).

I have left my keys in my car all night before and no-one has stolen it.. should I suggest people leave their keys in their car because I have proven it is safe?
XP is not secure - becoming less compatible with modern software and internet technology every day. There simply is no robustness in that OS. It is time to ditch it.
