The T862 has lousy temperature control -- it's the last thing you want to use to desolder ROM ICs. With many drives, if you over-heat the ROM it's bye-bye to ever recovering the data.

For a more cautious approach, I use a preheater set to 215C and a hot air SMT rework tool (wand), along with flux, to lift the ROM once the circuit board is stabilized at 215C. Lead-free solder used on these boards melts at 217C, so it doesn't take a lot of top heat to free the ROM.

I use an Atten 850b hot air rework station.

Normally I would apply flux to the rom and then apply the hot air for a few seconds until the solder flows and remove the chip.

If the solder is hard and doesn't flow easily I would use a small iron and apply leaded solder to each ic pin. Then using the hot air should allow the solder to flow freely.
