Inexpensive write blocker?

Anyone know of one thats reasonable? I have dedicated units - but i want one that just protects a source drive.

even software: identify it with the last 6 digits of the sn, and the sw blocks all accidental write attempts until you disable it for that device ... like a safety.

i know the second idea would never exist, but what about the first?

I've got a couple of these that I occasionally use when I'm just connecting a known healthy drive and I don't want to take any chance that the system will try to mount it: https://www.amazon.com/Coolgear-SATA-Ad ... 005C55OYA/
But, obviously, you're limited over USB.

I've also got a Tableau SATA write blocker bay in a forensic acquisition server I picked up on eBay, but I wouldn't call that "affordable" if you were to try to buy one new. I was just lucky that the seller didn't even know what they had there.

what do you guys use to make sure something continues copying irrespective of whether the drive disconnects (hot, etc) or hits a file that denies you permission -- etc ... ?

Preferably OS X
Obviously Windows
Also, Ubuntu as well.

Are you referring to file level copying or sector-by-sector imaging?
