With a degaussing machine; people sell such drives on ebay and I was wondering if they could be brought back to life.

No.

No only all magnetic components of the platter are altered and servo marks are gone but there are also the possibility that the degaussing machine would afect heads as well, etc ....

Not to mention firmware on platters is gone ....

Only thing that you can try to re-use from those drives is the PCB ...

I'm not a professional, but shouldn't it be possible to write servo marks without servo tract writer? (just with a special firmware but with the normal heads)
