I currently am running R-Studio 8.5 and UFS Explorer 5.25, I have had zero luck with recovering encrypted APFS partitions.

Could anyone give me some guidance on whether this is possible using the current software I have? It appears I will need to renew my license for either software to work with encrypted APFS?

What is the current state of compatibility for these two programs opening encrypted APFS volumes? R-Studio claimed to add support first, from what I can gather, Sysdev has now added this feature to R-Explorer a few months ago. Can anyone give me some feedback on how these programs have worked for you on encrypted APFS? Any limitations?

In the past I've had good results using Prosoft Data Rescue 3 for HFS+ partitions, could anyone give me some feedback on Data Rescue 5, in particular for encrypted APFS?

Thank you.

Update, I just spoke to Prosoft earlier and they told me they do not support opening APFS partitions.

According to their website it can pick up files from APFS in a raw scan (which I would expect) but obviously with encryption that doesn't mean much.

Latest UFS Explorer works great on encrypted APFS.

So no hiccups or limitations?

I did speak to SysDev and they said I cannot update my license for UFS Explorer because it is discontinued, but they are offering a 150EUR discount towards the new Recovery Explorer, which I'm sure includes all of the functionality from the final version of UFS Explorer.

Could anyone tell me how well R-Studio 8.9 works on the decrypted APFS; I really prefer its search and filter tools.

Ok, since SysDev is offering me 150EUR discount on the new version of Recovery Explorer, I'm going to update both programs, R-Studio will only cost $45USD to renew support and update.

When I have a chance to use them on APFS I'll post my feedback here.

Has anyone had any good experiences with other software not mentioned yet?

Have not experienced any hiccups.

I think UFS Explorer 5 is discontinued, my version 7.3 was updated last week.
If you are recovering data for clients I think you need to add a zero to the price for a R-Studio update to have the right license.

Here are some screenshots showing R-Studio 8.9 working on encrypted APFS!

Unfortunately I did not get any results from raw file scan on encrypted APFS volume. Scan search by file type returns no user data, just generic MacOS files. Last I heard, SysDev has not figured out how to do this yet either for their product, can anyone confirm whether IntelliRAW works on encrypted APFS?

Regarding to SysDev's products and APFS. In September 2018 was made some video guide https://youtu.be/mipCgb2Ew7o
It was before version 7 and a lot of enhances was made.
As example was added option to scan APFS with encryption.
But as always software need password and metadata have to be intact.

R-Studio 8.5 simply didn't support APFS.
That support was introduced in version 8.7 (including encryption), and improved in version 8.8 (some problems with encrypted APFS were solved).
There may be another issue: an APFS container may be damaged to the extent that it cannot be decrypted even with a correct password or key.
