Hello there,

First, let me say that I am a newbie in data recovery.

I've used R-studio to image a perfectly fine samsung 5000C5007FFAA13C but the HDD was formatted and had windows installed so the data wasn't saved prior the formatting. So i did a image of *.dsk after scanning i've found the lost data. but all the files have a red cross on the icon and status is undetermined. WIth Ontrak easyrecovery the files have a number + the extention file and open normaly, but R-studio has the name and size correctly, but they do not open normally?

Any tips to recover those with the names and file structure with R-Studio?

PS : i'm making a *.img file with ontrak easyrecovery too.

Most likely the partition offset is incorrect. Rather than scanning the logical volume(partition) you should scan the entire physical volume and see what it finds. You'll probably find that it'll find a different partition starting sector and then the files will open.

But, that's just a guess. Without analyzing the case myself it's hard to know for sure.

it's an image of the complete drive, not of a partition.

Can you upload an example of one particular file, as recovered by Ontrack and R-Studio? Then we can compare the two.

So this is the link containing all files, all files starting with _0000*.* are recovered with ontrack and the IMG_*.* (original name) are files recovered with R-studio

If you have a complete disk image, then any data recovery tool should be able to analyse it. You shouldn't need to create a separate image with each tool.

the rstudio created a *.dsk file but with ontrack when i try to load the img it doesn't open somehow.

I've sent a PM to Data-medics with the new links of the files on filebin.net. He told me that the files that i've extracted with R-studio (JPG files in this case) were missing their headers. So that made me think that i've maybe did something wrong to image the HDD. So i'm scanning the HDD and not the image and I'll compare result between the img file and hdd scan. i've started the scan about one hour ago and i'm at 40% done. the imaging process took around 2h30ish.

Sorry for the multi post i'll try to not do that again.

Hello there,

Is there a setup to recover only the good condition files with R-studio?

Because going through hundreds of folder to unselect the bad files is a major pain. Most the bad files are something like bad duplicate of good files.

You can use the 'file mask' option and uncheck the deleted files option etc.

Many thanks, Data-medics was kinda to help me through remote access and he showed me that. But none of the less, thank you for telling me that.
