Tools for hard drive diagnostics, repair, and data recovery

Hey There,
beside hardware tools like pc3k or dfl, is there any FREE (or low cost) Software Tool for quick and easy reading out things like head map, pre-amp Version, Rom Version and something like that? No need for imaging or testing. Only for storing and/(or selling donor parts...
All common sofware tools i know aren't able to read those informations... any hints?
