MRT Ultra vs DFL

February 24th, 2021, 22:07

hi

I already read all the posts that compare between MRT and DFL and everyone says MRT has a very poor technical support as DFL supports is more active and they answer your questions. my question is regardless of their support which device is more powerful for data recovery, firmware repair, imaging...etc. MRT says reckons that mrt ultra supports SSD but after looking on this forum it seems that it can't really repair or recover data from SSD. so please can any one share their knowledge and opinion so i can make a better decision as most of the customers that come in for data recovery have iPhone and MacBook and i might get one HDD once a week and i don't think it worth investing into PC 3000 UDMA. so i need to choose between MRT and DFL-PCIe 4X.

thanks

If you invest on a PC3000, you will see that you can deal with more than 1 drive a week (of course you have to make some marketing about you business).

Just go for the best and you won't regret it.

I don't know about Dolphin's Data Extractor tool, but MRT's is really weak. Of course, I am comparing to PC3K's DE, so perhaps the bar is set too high.

From a firmware repair perspective, both MRT and Dolphin are pretty solid.

yes i have been struggling to make a decision, as i don't advertise for HDDs as i'm not equipped for them. i was thinking to get a Chinese cheap recovery tool (MRT or DFL) and if i got busy then invest for PC 3000. thank you for your reply

appreciate your time thank you

i have been searching and reading and yes PC 3000 is the best data recovery tool but i am afraid i have to choose between MRT and DFL. i have a Toshiba 2.5 MQ01ABD100H that spins and connect to PC as not initialized no clicking i can hear the heads moving then they stop and drive keeps spinning. No scratches on platters, based on your experienced do you think MRT can extract data from cases like that. if heads are damaged can be replaced still MRT can't extract data? if not then i better of buying PC3000

appreciate your time thank you

i am using DFL tools since several years. DFL is powerfull tool with all options which uses other famous tools. DFL is very friendly team. they have good customer care service. DFL tools supports, almost all hard drives available at this time in market. tool is a tool. it support 50% of cases. other 50% is skill. I have solved lot of cases that have been rejected by another DR places that use a expensive and famous tools. most of time, i haven't rejected any cases except worst platter damages.

This is my experience. I have no MRT tools to campare.
Get other users ideaa and choose correct tool.
Good luck.

Thank you for sharing your experience, by the sound of it DFL has a better support and many videos and tutorials on youtube and it would be easier for me to learn as i couldn't find much about MRT and i emailed them they said they have tutorial videos but only after i purchase they can let me have access to them.
thanks again

"Can MRT extract data if such and such?"
It depends on the exact problem(s).

Not sure of your level of experience, but "extracting data" is a process. Meaning, with a hard drive:
1) We have to address whatever underlying problem(s) it has, such as electronic, mechanical, or firmware issues.
2) Once the drive is stable with user data access, then we clone the data to another drive or image file
3) Then, finally, we extract the files from the clone or image

Now, the 1st step, electronics and mechanical work involve your physical intervention, working with your hands and tools to replace or repair damaged components.

Firmware, on the other hand, is software related, therefore we will need a firmware repair tool, like the firmware component in MRT, DFL, PC3K etc.
Each, MRT, PC3K and DFL, have also a cloning module called "Data Extractor" that is used to clone and then retrieve/extract/recover the files from the clone to a new device.

In my previous reply, I was saying that the Data Extractor module/component on MRT isn't so great. I don't have experience with DFL's Data Extractor, but PC3K's is great.

So, there are many factors affecting a successful recovery in your particular case with the Toshiba drive.

By the way, MRT and DFL aren't much cheaper. They are still fairly expensive. MRT is convenient however that you could pay monthly on a need basis. If you don't use it, you don't have to recharge the account for usage. You do have to pay $400 down-payment to get the hardware if I recall correctly.

Either way, if you don't get a lot of advanced data recovery work, then investment in this equipment isn't really worth it. Can make money from using free tools, however you will only be able to recover the bulk of easy cases, which also requires the same fundamental process: clone and then extract files.

I believe DFL also has a pay-as-you-go plan, for their PCIe-4X Data Recovery Express (Recharge Version). This article by Mike Smith of Best In AU describes DFL's features, pros and cons (but looks like a shill).

Thank you for taking the time to explain, your reply was very informative and made things clearer. i looked online on different forums and it seems MRT is slightly more powerful than DFL but DFL has better support and easier to learn how to work with. well i have been in contact with both MRT and DFL sales department and both are pretty active and answer questions right away even MRT put more time and effort in answering questions but yet don't know about after sale and tech support.

Thank you for sharing your experience. it looks like it for a beginner DFL is better but still looking so hopefully i can make a decision this week.

"...yet don't know about after sale and tech support"
This is another important aspect you have to understand clearly.
There is a difference between upfront support trying to sell you something vs technical support once you have bought the product. These are two different things.

Upfront, everybody will be very responsive, as all companies want to make a sale. Sales people work on commission, so everybody is responsive.

When it comes to technical support, that is different. All vendors offer some free support or paid support. It is important to know that your expectation of tech support answering your questions clearly and exceptionally to your liking will NOT happen, regardless of vendor. They may answer questions giving you clues, but it is almost never satisfactory. Sometimes, they lognin remotely and try to solve problem for.you, sometimes it works great, sometimes not. Again, this depends on vendor.

Saying all of this to convey that the strength in solving problems will not come from the vendor's tech support. Rather, it will be you investing a significant amount time learning the tools by practicing on practice drives, reading manuals, forums, build a network of friends that you could exchange information with and so on. Also, the more experienced friends could also provide you help remotely, if they have time, of course. Sometimes you may have to give them a few coins, etc.

In terms of manuals and tech support (free 1 year I believe), again, Ace is the best. The manuals themselves will accelerate your learning from fundamentals to more advanced stuff, but you have to put time in reading them. Once you have sound fundamentals, you can use any tool, as tinkering around with slightly different graphics isn't so difficult.

yes i agree with this, and i can already tell after i purchase i would be this forum looking for answers. i have been watching MRT videos on youtube and MRT has so many bugs and it's tricky and and makes it difficult to work with but i like the interface as it's simillar to PC 3000 o i was thinking i might learn how to work with it watching some of PC 3000 videos. DFL looks easier to work with more simple and i don't know if it has bugs as MRT, if not then DFL would be better as the bugs i saw on MRT aren't funny and can waste your whole day.

Every tool is easy and hard to work with.
If you don't have any idea on the technology works, every tool will be hard.
Just for looking on menus, doesn't tell you if a tool is good or not, if it's easy or not (except very rare exceptions).

Seems to me that you are getting stunned with the "airplane cockpit" of PC3000 :D
