I have a seagate barracuda 7200.11, 1.5 tb hdd. About 6 months ago it fell about 2 inches when it was powered down, now all i get is a very quiet humm that lasts for about a second and quits for 2 seconds and does it again. i've tried to record this but my mic isnt sensitive enough. the data isnt really all that inportant but it is just so massive it would take forever to get it back. All i want is to be able to get some of my data. after that i dont care if the drive doesnt work again.

this should of been posted in the data recovery and repair section. it sounds like there is a possibility of the head stiction to the platter. can be repaired you need to take it to a pro. the heads on a seagate don't have a ramp and are parked close to the spindle.

That is the last thing you should of done on this drive. You never open a drive and thrn try to move the heads on it. Sorry but now your do not have a chance to get back your data on it now. If you data was important to you then you should of taken it to someone who has a clean room and ability to deal with a drive that is dropped.

poehere, i dont have a clean room but i do have a small clean enviroment that i put it in when i took it apart. and i never moved the head past the landing pad. everything is fine, except it not working. Im now thinking it is a seized bearing.

After opening the drive IMO, it's not just a seized motor. Seized motor beside something else.
Anyway, you need a pro intervention. Seized motor not a simple case even for a Pro.

Good luck

after a little bit of investigating i found out that the motor is recieving pulses of .75-2.5 volts. Is this normal and if not what could be the problem
