Hi

My Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 hard drive (HP12 firmware) is locked in BSY state.

I read a lot of information about how to unlock Seagate drives (with a Seagate firmware), but it seems that the procedure is different when the firwmare is HP12.

I would appreciate if you could give me the right procedure for the HP12 firmware.

Thanks in advance

Patrick

Maybe this?

If you have some electronics skill, and if you can build a simple circuit, then I may be able to help you. It should cost you about $5 in parts. Alternatively, I can help adapt something from eBay.

I have bought all the necessary material. All I need is information for unlocking a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 hard disk with HP12 firmware.

According to that other thread, and assuming that the same method applies in your case, you need to inject an interference signal into the read channel. For that you need a signal generator. Your TTL RS232 adapter is something else entirely. I'm not a data recovery professional, so I don't have personal experience with this problem, but no professional is going to tell you their secret, no matter how trivial. I propose to use a 555 timer, a capacitively coupled probe, and a resistive voltage divider. Some private feedback would suggest that this procedure does indeed work, at least for the ES.2 models.

No I didn't try. I want to know the exact procedure before starting. I don't want to damage my hard disk.

Do you get an "F3>" prompt if you issue "Ctrl-Z" ?

I didn't try, since when the disk is in BSY state, the terminal is locked.

Why not insulating the head contacts in the first place ?

Why is it important to power off/on the disk between the N1 and m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22 commands ?
Some people say it isn't necessary.

Hi

I finally unlocked my hard drive and updated the firmware.

I used the standard procedure, but with the following modifications :
- I used the / and F,,22 commands after the U command
- after the N1 and / commands, powering off and on the drive locked the terminal, so I restarted the whole procedure from the beginning, without disconnecting the drive after the N1 and / commands

I then backed up my data and installed the latest firmware (HP26).

I don't know if it is the simplest procedure or if it works for other people, but it worked for me.

I didn't use properly the word "unlock"
What i wanted to mean was if you are stuck in terminal because commands as translator don't work you need to do CONGEN on HP 7200.11 drives.
