Wash it like you wash your car every weekend!

Introduction:

"Sometimes a hard disk drive becomes sluggish or stops working because it needs to be cleaned. However, cleaning a hard drive disk platter is a delicate operation. Be sure to prepare yourself with the proper cleaning tools and procedure in order to give yourself the best possible chance to improve your hard drive's performance instead of damaging it."

The step #6 should be the #1 instead. :D

I have to agree with you there. If you aren't a professional, it probably isn't very wise to clean a hard drive. I know full and well that I wouldn't be able to follow those HD cleaning instructions to a T. Frankly, I got my mitts on my hard drive right now, it would probably explode from sheer fail. :[

Good luck realigning the head stack assembly if it was one of those wonderful kinds of Western Digital drives.

I just about cried when I read through these. Not for the idiocy, not out of hilarity, but for the folks having been mis-led into believing that these are easily performed procedures that anyone can do in one evening.

Have you looked at the credentials and education level of the folks that wrote those articles?
One is a lawyer, and another one has a BS degree in IS.. sure as hell gives new meaning to modern education. What is this world coming to?
