Is the pcb original?

Does the s/n match the drive label?

FWIW, I see one forum post where the drive's owner states that his drive doesn't appear to be spinning. That would suggest a PCB fault. Does the PCB ID the same way on its own?

I suspect that this is a prgoramming/translation error with PC3K and not an actual message from the hard drive itself.

No, it's a real error.

Weird.

I notice that "Franz" states that he "can't even feel the drive spin", so that's why I asked einstein9 if he could reproduce the error with the PCB on its own. ISTM that a reference to construction would suggest that the drive may be repairing damaged firmware, either on the PCB or on the platters. However, I only have a vague idea as to how and where Toshiba drives store their firmware modules. Alternatively, could the drive be thinking that it is in manufacturing mode???
