Sorry - mind-reading is not my forte.

What's the problem with the drive? What are you trying to do?

I was just hoping to find an adapter? or the name of an adapter? Or possible a different PCB to use on this drive.

There is no adapter available.

A different PCB will not work.

It's probably encrypted with WD Smartware which further complicates the issue.

You will need pro assistance for this.

I'm not a DR guy, but if you can upload detailed photos of both sides of the PCB, I should be able to identify the SATA Tx/Rx signal pairs for you. Then you will be able to adapt a SATA cable to bypass the USB bridge chip on the PCB.

Having said that, you really haven't provided any information other than that the drive cannot be detected via USB.

Does the drive spin up, or attempt to spin up? Any buzzing, vibration?

If using Windows, can you see any device in Device Manager, Disk Management?

Can you detect the enclosure using Microsoft's UVCView?
http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/USB_ID ... ew.x86.exe

Is there any 5V power getting to the PCB? Can you measure any voltages (2.5V, 3.3V ???) at any of the pins of the 12-pin header?

Can you see any cracks around the USB connector? WD users frequently report intermittent USB connections.

Is the bridge chip an Initio INIC-1607E? If so, then it has 128 bit AES encryption which may make your job difficult, if not impossible.

If you suspect that the bridge chip may be dead, disconnect the data or clock signal to the associated 8-pin serial EEPROM chip. The bridge chip should then identify itself with its own Product ID (INIC-1607E) and Vendor ID (Initio) rather than the one in the EEPROM.

In this case if you hear drvie clicking slightly then it can be SA damage to some mods or heads on it. You will need pro help on this one it is not a fix for you on it. Sorry to say this one but if you want data back then find a company that can help you out on this one.

Sir ,
first do not get disheartened by these professionals .They just come here to understand cases and standard reply is send to a pro .Pro means if someone has a issue at XYZ country the pro will find is Pro Friend in that country and refer the client to him .Its just gaining knowledge and making money thats all i would say since the time i have joined HDDGURU by these select 10+ people .Anyway Back To the Question I have this drive and i would be doing something in this regard today and post you my progress .I think the drive has some bad sectors and hence USB Interface is posing issues in this .My plan is as under

I will provide the necessary voltages to the drive either via USB [ After Disconnecting the Signals From The Same ] and they Get the signal Out directly To the SATA Interface in my DR computer Motherboard .then clone it and recover the data .Lets See What Happens .

Well ,
Just for a Heads Up ,Drive Has INIC-1607E Bridge Controller IC SATA to USB with AES 48pin LQFP .this Basically Means Either We Find the Pin Diagram Of the 12 Header Or If We Try and bypass the INIO CTRL Might Be It Has Already Encrypted The Drive and Its a fruitless excercise Or Might Be If AES is Not Been Used It Works ,God Know Checking Still .
