I have some of these drives here and the WD Doctors has some major issues on them trying to start them in this tool. You might want to try an external power source to start this tool with. When you try to use your PS on this drive it is not getting enough power to this tool to start this drive with it. You will get on power on when you hit the power button, bsy, then no hdd. This can also be a problem from the tool and not only your PCB board. This tool has to be played around with in order to read these drives from it. I had one that came ready showed ready and when trying to load from HDD was in Ready status but the program said no HDD on this one. Use the smallest IDE cable possible on this one and go out and buy some new power cable to use in your output on this tool. Then get an external power supply used for powering up your HDD like the one that comes with the USB multiple connector that you can attach a 3.5, 2.5 SATA or IDE to it. This one works very well in powering up this tool. Test this before doing anymore to this PCB or opening up this drive.

Thanks for your sugestions Ann, i am on external power as i experianced trouble to get another WD5000AAKS running. But this one seem like tere is no communication at all, no change of state at all.

Ill have to look closer om power supply for the marvel chip..

Is recovery posible without adaptive data from marvel chip om these series ?

Check out in SD forum on how to do this one with Mods from your HDD on this.

If the MCU is dead, the last resort is to get out the SA in some way from the drive (hope the headstack is not killed too :?) and then rebuild ROM on a fresh PCB. I can't see anything else.

I vote for dead MCU or bad preamp.

More than a hint : dig in your pockets or outsource the case.

I think it's beyond the capabilities of WD doctor (but I can be wrong), so you need "other" tools. AND, beside MCU dead, I think there can likely be something else.

Personally I wouldn't trust WD Doctor on this one. For one it can't even see the head map properly on these drives!
