Hi gents,

I have a HD203WI here, where both S-list and T-list are corrupt. Access to parts of the data fails due to translator failure (still copying, maybe 80% are ok).
All 6 heads are ok, S.M.A.R.T. reports 148 reallocated and 1 uncorrectable sectors after only 48h operation time.
Rebuilding S-list from T-list and backwards failed, because both are faulty (e.g. terminal output shows head 7 read failure!)

Has anybody an idea, how to clean up, or rebuild the defect lists? Is there a command available, where the translator can be rebuilt? (I know, that Samsung is not Seagate...)

I can provide logs later, now I'm sitting at my office PC.

Thanks in advance!

Thomas

PS: Happy new Year!!!

Hi BlackST,

thanks for prompt reply.
After copying data over night with PC3K, I have some more details:

- Data from LBA 0 - 192268814, and 3850905787 - 3907029167 (end of disc) copied. Somwhere between clicked on sectors, they're readable.

- Defect List is strange, because the disc has only 6 heads (0...5). Defect list shows entries for head 6+7, which will be claimed by firmware:

Attention! Probably, T-LIST module structure is damaged.

Is it possible to erase whole firmware area, write back all sectors except defect lists, and scan defects?

I have enough experience with Seagate and WD translator issues, but (still) not with Samsung.

(and then was silence... :? )

Hi, I got it:

Main problem was, that Samsung uses a dynamic translator. Means, translator will be generated using defect lists. But T-list was corrupt. (Seagates translator is here more friendly to repair..)

With new PC3000-Update I was able to rebuild T-list. Now I have full access to disc.
Of course this is a case for Samsung warranty service.

Kind regards,

Thomas
