My old laptop died a few days ago and I was wondering if I can use its hard drive as a external hard disk.
Its a Travelstar DJSA-220 20GB HD, i wanted to know if there is any converter or something else that i can use to connect the driver externally to my desktop pc using a usb.

I have also attached some picture's of the hard disk that i have!
I hope you guys can help me out! :)

At first take out the adapter connected (now - visible on the photo) onto the ide hdd.

You then have a standard 44pin 2,5" ide hdd - and there are noumerous USB2.0
adapters or cases - for low budget - available out there on the market.

Try to get one with its own power supply - or if its not available, use a usb hub
with a power supply - older 2,5" hdd need more power to spin up than some
usb 2.0 ports supply.

Have a close look to the pins of the hdd as it is now.

One easily can see that these pins belong to a little adapter which
is connected on top of the ide contacts of the hdd itself.

Again, have a close look to your hdd - one can see it on the photo:
On the right side of the rear one can see the 4 pins which are not
covered by the adapter ....

Take this adapter carefully off from the hdd pins.

After doing that, you have a standard 2,5" IDE hdd

The little adapter is only to connect it to the notebook and does
not belong to the hdd.
