No, cant use MHDD over USB
Needs an IDE interface (or a sata drive plugged into an IDE controller via an IF board)

If I'm not mistaken, this is described in details in MHDD manual. Have a look there and it will answer all your questions.

wow... thanx guys for helping me... finally i manage to dump and unlock my WD1600bevt-22zct0 hard drive using MHDD. and i clearly VIEW my password using hex editor... yahooooooooooo..... more power guys.....

Hey guys , here goes i forgot my password to my hdd i have followed everything on here and got the 22.bin can you help me retreive my password or point me in the right direction

please help i am fighting a custody battle for my son and all his pictures and videos are on this drive, so my life is on this drive basically :( thank you

Hey Zurskim , you havnt followed the correct instructions to received your 22.bin as all codes are 'FF FF FF FF'

This is how i done it , Download mhdd 4.5 ISO burn this to a CD , then download the .ZIP file format a USB stick drag and drop the files for mhhd to the USB drive , put CD into drive and USB into the usb slot , BOOT from the CD and hold F5 down then type ' C:/mhhd ' press enter and mhhd will load from USB drive , type '.dump' with the DOT ...... then type '.dump2' this will create a 22.bin , boot up windows and use a HEX EDITOR to veiw the 22.bin and post results up here , what hard drive are you using as i used this method to unlock my WD . hope this helps , i will try get links to the mhhd i used up shortly

OK HERE GOES !!!!

i will attempt to step by step talk you through how i unlocked MY OWN

1, Download This http://hddguru.com/download/software/mhdd/mhdd32ver4.6iso.zip
2, Burn The ISO to a CD
3, Then Download This http://forum.hddguru.com/download/file.php?id=1434
4, Put a USB stick into the Computer FORMAT it to FAT32 and copy the contents of Step 3, to the USB stick
5, REMOVE all drive appart from the DRIVE you wish to retreive the 22.bin or 42.bin FILE from
6, Pop the USB stick into the compter put the CD in the drive and BOOT FROM CD !!
7, when you boot from CD hold F5 and you will be on a Command prompt Screen
8, TYPE C:/MHDD.exe and let it run
9, Type .dump this will create your 22.bin file and save it to the USB stick
10, Put the drive with windows back in load up windows and open the 22.bin with a HEX editor

11, You should see a file like everybody is posting up here with WDC WD3200BEVT-22ZCT running down the side or something similar

Here is what I get when I do the dump.... I noticed my 22.bin file seems to be short?

I did the dump and then dump2... On the dump2 I am getting error: No DRQ

After Digging more I do see something with the 01 07 byte code... But following that All I have is 00 1E 30 2E??? Then the rest zeros to be followed up by the same thing.

How exactly did you set the password on this drive? How many keystrokes are in the password (approx value, if you don't remember the exact number)?
