Hi

been looking over some of the equipment available and noticed it said that the DFL uses (or can use) the PC-3000 modules..

Surely that would mean it is just a cheap clone of the PC-3000 and the latter is the better option?

Only asking as I'm comparing equipment for moving on to the next stage of recovering data. I own a small I.T. repair outlet and am sick of the 50/50 approach and know I can offer a somewhat better service if I had better equipment. I know I'd certainly achieve a much more healthier recovery rate than what is possible with my current setup.

And I've been around HDD long enough to know you don't stick them in freezers or go dropping them on carpets or opening them etc etc..I send them off to a specialist in the North of ireland and let them do that  (I jk obviously)..

So cost wise it's breaking down as follows

Atola
PC-3000
Salvation Data
DeepSpar

Salvation Data is way out of my budget (Sadly :( ) as is possibly Atola (I might be lucky and win the lotto - who knows :) )

DFL? I'm unsure of - cost effective but if all they are doing is copying PC-3000 then I'd pay the extra - IF the buggers would ever answer emails! Just put your prices on the website and be done with it already ...

PC-3000 - see last comment

DeepSpar - looks to be what I'm really after to get started and get to grips with a core understanding of HDD construction and operation and then move deeper in as knowledge/confidence grows.
Ok those 4 seem to be the most used/mentioned .. I know there are some others and there's a lot of D.I.Y. kit's ye can make up.. I have one myself a TTL that I put together for rescuing Seagate 7200's via Hyper terminal (So I'm not a total novice before anyone asks and have got data back where others have given up/failed - Non mechanical obviously)...

Am I though dismissing DFL equipment out of hand?

Opinions please...

Is there any particular reason why you don't keep the business in southern ireland?

Buying tools is easiest part of DR. Understanding how to use the tools to recover your customers data is another thing that most newbies seem to overlook. From my experience stay away from China and India if you want to succeed.

From all of those i would go for PC-3000 first and only then to DDI. DDI in a cloning tool while PC-3000 it's a firmware tool, with Data Extractor and great manuals and support.

100% agree. Although I wish Ace would answer my emails once in awhile.

I know you guys must be hurt by someone in this field but according to my experience with DFL, they are quite another for their good support and good functions of tools.

You can ask all those who are using DFL products especially the wd firmware repair tool, it indeed does something the UDMA cannot even do. I have the DDI, udma, sd and Dfl tools until now, as for support, DDI and dfl are the best so far.

if you see pc 3000 & dfl very similar in shape this not means its copy from pc 3000

cozy can check functions from first version released from ver 1.0 till ver 2.4 and their time to know dfl add new functions befor pc 3000

cut zone for royal & marvel families till now not support

regen rom for new 1640 till now not suppport they only search on modules 90 to know which microcode then search in data base to get matching with microcode

this not means its support regen rom like dfl and dfl support work on new regen 1640 1698 with new method they not waiting pc 3000 function to copy it

for pcb 1573 &1590 no need to load overlay to access sa only from kernel mode y can access to track and split modules and during split check where is the bad modules by internal structure checking

till now this functions not support in pc 3000 and y need load overlay to access firmware area to work on 1590 or 1537

dfl can regen factory 02 from logs for new royal to solve slow responding problem without any effrot

till now pc 3000 not support to regen mod 02 and y must use thier functions

regen overlay module auto from pcb 1444 1537 1590 and most of 2.5 old families

and dfl support working to add for new royal

dfl-wd can make selfscan for firmware are to regen new defect list for sa included all new bad tracks in sa

this functions not support till now with pc 3000

dfl-wd can format sa for all marvel & royal families and its very important to repair many many undetected problems without loss your data by using read tracks and split original modules then format and write your original modules again

i will not talk about arco coz very big work and pc 3000 not support any arco functions for repair

pc 3000 better than dfl in checking modules through aba and get which modules are bad with dfl y need to calculate many thing to get which module

from all that impossible to tell dfl-wd copy from pc 3000

only if you want comparing between tool try to see functions

THANKS

@Spildit
Agree with you.
PC-3000 can support all disks, even SD also can support.
Anyway DFL works only on WD.

Thanks for your input on this subject and for the list of diferences too.
At any rate what i was trying to state is that for someone starting on DR, PC-3000 would support almost all drives in the market, and DFL would only support WD (this of course regarding firmware manipulation / fixing) .

So essentially the DFL unit does require the PC-3000 modules? And is limited in it's ability by what your saying?

Seems that the general overall opinion is that the PC-3000 Units, (As I already suspected) are the way to go. I did (strangely enough) receive an e-mail first thing from them, the first requesting if I had received an earlier mail from them from earlier in the month when I first made a pricing inquiry, to which I replied I hadn't and a second around an hour later with a whole load of sale spiel that I did not need (Nor had requested) and the rather hefty price tag for there different products.

I'm quite sure that for instance the PC-3000 unit requires the PC-3000 data extractor module for it to be a complete unit so why they don't just package as one unit with an overall price is somewhat perplexing to say the least. The same for the other products - They all seem to be main unit and then main unit data Extractor

i.e.

PC-3000 Express - removed EUR
Data Extractor Express - removed EUR
Data Extractor RAID Edition Express - removed EUR
PC-3000 for Windows UDMA - removed EUR
Data Extractor UDMA - removed EUR
Data Extractor RAID Edition UDMA - removed EUR
PC-3000 for SCSI - removedEUR
Data Extractor SCSI - removed EUR

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm sure you will ;) ) but that would seem to indicate that PC-3000 will require the tag on data extraction modules to be a fully functional unit? As RAID is an even more specialist area I can see why it would be a separate unit but I don't see what the point is of separating the UDMA Data Extractor is for? (Anyone?) ...

My only other concern is there very restrictive transfer policy though I can see the pro's and con's of such a policy I think the Con's kind of out weigh the pro's to some extent. The major pro being that if a license was transferable, even if a fee was involved then it would give starters (Such as myself) a chance to at least get a foot in the door so to speak without having to break the bank to do it.

And yes I can see the major downside to that, in that it could/can let a lot of cowboys lose doing things they haven't the ability to do. The 'Back Street Hero' mob as I call them... I see the results on an almost daily basis when they've been let lose on folks computers.. :very sad smilie:

Anyway, it seems that it will be the PC-3000 UDMA and Data Extractor UDMA. Now just got to find the bones of €5000eur from somewhere... (Unless someone knows a cheaper alternative? - Hey Ye can't knock a guy for trying LoL ;) )

Many Thanks for your helpful replies,

kind regards :)

well, we don't mind whether the tools support all or not, the key is that we do need something that works and help to grow the business, because it's not possible we own one tool only. Within this field, I have deeply felt it a wise choice from a combination purchase and select the right tools, otherwise, you are most possibly buying some tools collecting dust...

iam aggree with you wise choise acombination purchase coz most of poor countries work in fining more than data recovery and at least if y want to work in data recovery y must use powerfull tool can make your patient as a toy in your hand

pc 3000 is very good tool no one can say aonther but expensive to buy and not so big friends can buy it to work in repair only therefore they bought sd tools when in released in market

dfl now can give me high success rate with repair and give you also high rate from data recovery work keep your data intact even after formating sa

also now most of hdd comes with badsectors and need at least 12-15 hours forselfscan and only one tool can do it if you have samsung seagate wd and more

thanks

First of all, what do you want to do?
Repair FW, etc?

Or getting a Imager hardware?

DFL doesn't have nothing to do with PC3K, or need to get it.
They are independent tools. For now, only WD fw tool, but they are developing for Seagate and Samsnung at least.
While for imagers, they have DFL-DE and now the DFL-DDP (it works on USB 3.0).
