Sorry, the password was indeed in 22.bin at location 0x10E.

Offset 0x7A in 21.bin points to offset 0x30E in MOD 02 as the location of the password block. The size of the block is 0x48 bytes.

Code:
Offset(h) 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 0A 0B 0C 0D 0E 0F

00000100                                            00 01
00000110  07 00 2E 13 1E 2C 17 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00000120  00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00000130  00 00 2E 13 1E 2C 17 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00000140  00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00000150  00 00 08 40 FE FF

You need to create a 32-byte file consisting of "2E 13 1E 2C 17 00 00 ... 00" and then send it to the drive as a password string. Victoria for Windows can do this.

Thanks for the much appreciated help with this, I wouldn't have been able to get as far as I did with this project if it wasn't for your help.

Hay Guys,

i almost read every page of this thread but cant fix the unlock

I just cant read out my password

The HDD is a Model: WDC WD3200BEVT-26ZCT0 and Serial: WD-WXT0E79RWK14 (Which both differs from the hexdump !!!?)

I used ".dump" (.dump2 lead to a DRQ error)

Im thankful for any help :)

Did you use HDDHackr on your drive, and did you apply a foreign UNDO.BIN file?

Oh, i see that the mhdd.zip i used already contained 21 22 and 48.bin files from someone. And my mhdd didnt overwrite them somehow. I will try again by deleting the files out of directory

OK now I finally got the right HexDump.

So the lines are:

00 01 07 00 13 00 16 00 0A 00 13 00 25 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 53 54 50 43 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

Decimal would be: 019 022 010 019 037 083 084 080 067 ... when pressing ALT-GR and type its: ????%STPC ... weired... ? doesnt work

If there is some nice person on this forum that can help me I'd greatly appreciate this!!!

Here is my problem - I have a My Passport Ultra that is locked and shows the WD Drive Unlock and the password I enter isn't working... maybe I have forgot it as I haven't used it for more than two months. The problem is that recently I made a clean reinstall of my laptop and all the information I had on it from many years is on this drive.

I read through the pages of the thread, but I use a Macbook and all the ZU and MHDD things that are mentioned are an exe.

Can someone please tell me or give me a link where it is explained as how to get to this 22.bin file or what should I do?

I hope someone can help :(

Yours isn't an ATA password and therefore nothing to do with "22.bin"

Yours appears to be a smartware password, which is a totally different kettle of fish and virtually unbreakable. Unless you can remember the password then you're pretty much stuck :-(

Did you set a "hint" when you initially set the password?

pcimage, thank you a lot for answering!!!

The thing is that I remember what the password is and it corresponds to the hint, but it still says invalid password. It is a short 4 digit password and there is no way to not remember it. I don't know what to do as all my stuff from the last 5 years - personal and work is in this drive! I am really shocked. If any ideas, please share.

Sounds like the encryption key may have become corrupt. It's possible there is a backup of that key in the drive's firmware (or on the drive itself) so the data may be recoverable, but it's not a DIY fix AFAIK.

bcometa any idea who I can ask about it or provide this service for me (of course I'll pay for this, but I can't seem to figure out who I can ask about this as everyone that hears that it is an encryption problem says to forget about it and there is no fix)? Thank you.

Happy to take a look and check the backup copy in FW, but I'm doubtful.

In the case of corruption or spuriously set password, the hint isn't there in my experience.

Forgive me, but what is also odd is that initially you said that you could have forgotten it, as it had been "more than 2 months" since you'd used it, but now you're saying there's "no way" you could have forgotten it. :?

pcimage thank you for the answer.
I started doubting myself that I have forgotten it because I had no other explanation to why it won't work and I got shocked, but I haven't changed it plus I use the same password for another hdd and it is just 4 symbols, so I really don't think I have forgotten it.

Fair enough.

Send it in to me and I'll take a look.

No promises, but at least I'll be able to confirm a few things :-)
