I'm working on a Kermit family drive wd10eavs-00d7b1. The drive can't read it's SA SPT even after ldr upload. The drive just tries to read SA several times then shuts down.

I've ruled out pcb issues as I've tried three different pcb's. And I've even tried rebuilding ROM from SA, just in case that was corrupted, but same result.

After hotswap I can read all modules and all modules pass check in modules directory. I notice that when I read by ABA head 3 does have issues reading a couple modules, but head 2 reads them all just fine. (and yes I am using the directory of modules from the patient, not donor)

I've attempted smart hotswap by writing all tracks to the donor and powering it on with client pcb, but it acts exactly the same as the patient, just fails to read SA and shuts down.

Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Maybe I'm missing something obvious.

I would try a head swap. Those are pretty easy for head swaps and pretty forgiving for alignment issues

Have you tried altering the head map after loading LDR, and resetting?

[5/22/2014 12:41:34 PM] Jared Palmer: you use teamviewer?

[5/22/2014 12:51:40 PM] Jared Palmer: if you're just talking about changing headmap in RAM I've already tried that
[5/22/2014 12:52:16 PM] Muhammad Ali: so you know it... so what happend?
[5/22/2014 12:52:27 PM] Jared Palmer: same result

[5/22/2014 12:53:04 PM] Muhammad Ali: ok!

[5/22/2014 1:00:41 PM] Muhammad Ali: what you mean?
[5/22/2014 1:00:52 PM] Muhammad Ali: check tommorow?
[5/22/2014 1:01:07 PM] Jared Palmer: probably Monday. I'm not working tomorrow.
[5/22/2014 1:01:29 PM] Muhammad Ali: before 5 min you ready to check..
[5/22/2014 1:02:31 PM] Jared Palmer: really can't. I have to go take care of something.
[5/22/2014 1:03:16 PM] Muhammad Ali: I am not a kid Jard better luck what i have advice... you.!
[5/22/2014 1:17:49 PM] Muhammad Ali: Jard money is no problem but your changing words really hurt i can't believe this.
[5/22/2014 1:18:18 PM] Jared Palmer: I don't think I understand what you're talking about...
[5/22/2014 1:18:42 PM] Jared Palmer: I'm saying that something completely unrelated to this project came up and now I have to deal with that instead.
[5/22/2014 1:18:56 PM] Jared Palmer: I'll be back to this project later. Probably Monday
[5/22/2014 1:19:33 PM] Muhammad Ali: are you try head map in RAM? speak truth?
[5/22/2014 1:19:39 PM] Jared Palmer: yes
[5/22/2014 1:19:57 PM] Jared Palmer: but I really don't have time to work on this now.. got another emergency on my hands
[5/22/2014 1:21:04 PM] Muhammad Ali: ok jared as you wish..
[5/22/2014 1:21:17 PM] Muhammad Ali: i can't look this case again... if even you say..
[5/22/2014 1:23:15 PM] Muhammad Ali: you get the detection Jared with head map formula!!
[5/22/2014 1:23:18 PM] Muhammad Ali: am i right?
[5/22/2014 1:24:24 PM] Jared Palmer: no, like I said I had already tried that with the same result
[5/22/2014 1:25:06 PM] Jared Palmer: I'm thinking it might be a compound issue. I did notice some corrosion on the PCB, so I'm thinking that perhaps the whole thing got wet and it's more than one issue.
[5/22/2014 1:39:02 PM] Muhammad Ali: i can't believe this..
[5/22/2014 1:39:08 PM] Muhammad Ali: then why you wast my all time..
[5/22/2014 1:39:10 PM] Muhammad Ali: !!!
[5/22/2014 1:39:25 PM] Muhammad Ali: i am just stuck because of you..
[5/22/2014 1:40:29 PM] Jared Palmer: I'm not wasting your time. I asked a question on a forum earlier today which you responded to. And right now I don't have time, I'm busy with another project
[5/22/2014 2:09:37 PM] Muhammad Ali: I'm saying that something completely unrelated to this project came up and now I have to deal with that instead. what that mean Jared?
[5/22/2014 2:15:15 PM] Muhammad Ali: ok Jared i am going but you missed the greate formula what i said is uncomplete..
[5/22/2014 2:15:29 PM] Muhammad Ali: so better keep your words truth
[5/22/2014 2:18:27 PM] Muhammad Ali: now get a block from me.

Update

I finally solved this one, (no thanks to dataplanet - that guy is crazy!) I think his "secret technique" was just to change headmap in RAM, which duh, I already tried that. And after seeing how crazy he is, I'm not ever giving him remote access.

Turned out it was a compound issue. I swapped heads and PCB, then rechecked modules. This time it came up with two bad modules which I replaced with donors. Drive is imaging away as we speak.

Note to Muhammad Ali: I was gonna send you a few bucks for your "wasted time" that you spent harassing me on Skype just to keep things civil, but after you're posting our conversation, you can take a hike.

Wahoo magically you got the solution even you stuck since last 10 days. My instruction really help you now I give you detail which two module is bad this must be smart modules 0021 & 0023 I have long experience is Kermit... what a big lie you present.

My thinking were 100% right.

All DR engineer know about this.

Now compound few bucks to charity with heads and PCB swap.

we reguarly see "DR Engineers doing bone headed things, making mistakes, and not knowing things that maybe they should know. No different than any other industry, we are all human.
One big mistake is trying to assume what another person knows. Another is not listening when someone offers advice or perspective.

We cant know something until we learn it, so it is better to focus on someones question, not go off wildly trying to read into it and make all kinds of assumptions.

ASSUME = making an ASS out of U & ME

Do you really think you know what "ALL DR Engineers" know?

Your instruction???? You didn't tell me anything remotely useful. You talked about your "secret technique", spent a half hour trying to talk me up on the price, then spent the next two hours harassing my Skype account after I told you I was too busy to work on it.

I did this without any help from you, and it wasn't something you could've done remotely anyway.

I wonder what he's gonna think about this post after he tries to Google translate it. LOL!

He'll probably think it's something racist.

Or that you are saying bad stuff about his country .....

I'm just NOT HAPPY at all that i end up banned from the HDDGuru forum because of that guy.

To be honest i just hope that he returns soon here and start to mess up drives BIG TIME. After all i guess that i did wrong in going against that guy. I should had let him alone to do whatever he wanted.

Well, at any rate i'm glad you have the data back. Regards !
