Guys,

I own a small DR company and am considering adding SSD and flash recoveries to the services I provide. In your estimation, how much of your revenue is generated from SSD/flash as a percentage of your overall income.

TIA

Pesky

HDDs will still be the bulls share of your profit, that's for sure. Flash recovery, in my opinion, is actually less profitable as cases often require more time than HDD recovery and people are generally willing to pay less. However, given the market shifting toward SSD/flash technology more and more, it'll ultimately be necessary to get into that realm.

Personally, for now, I'm content just getting the dumps and letting someone with a lot more experience do the hard part. Though I suppose I should eventually start doing them myself to gain the experience.

Hi,
Although the question was directed to jared i would reply .

Mainly there are three tools ,Softcenter flash extractor , Rusolut and Acelab Pc 3000 Flash .If you read documentation correctly taking suggestions i would say in 3 month you can be quite ok to a good level in flash .I personally have pc 3000 flash

Having owned pc3000 flash for a few weeks and having only had really a few cases through the door, I dont think doing flash is going to make me rich any time soon!
Yes its nice to have the tool there but from what im seeing, every job is just an enormous hassle!

It will ruin your business if you don't have other people to do HDD cases as well or if you are not extremely careful with how you financially support it.

Arvika Sir ,

I understand that someone like you, haque etc who dedicate 100% of their time to NAND definitely are way way ahead then us but the documentation of acelab is very good .If you do not skip anything and also read it 3 to 5 times again and again it does make a difference .Also having more tools makes a difference .Infact in hdd dr work i have salvation , dfl ,mrt and pc3000 and it does make a difference .Plus we have people like you to help us here and there

I understand your enthusiasm, and you are a good student for sure, and... I would agree this would work - in any other application. but: You cannot read what is not written down Amarbir.

Arvika has spent 100's, 1,000's of hours in the lab. be prepared to do the same. devices change constantly It is almost impossible to keep up. You have to give everything to it, and then some. Virtually none of what I or Arvika have learned has been from any text or resource.

If you are working alone or don't have a decent team, or plenty of money to write off, you are in for some hard times.

Amarbir - but I dedicate for flash about 30-40% of time, not more. Rest time for HDD. But HDD is usually piece of cake, so not worth mention it. Flash is 10x harder than HDD and less paid.
Also I do not write anything about Ace, VNR and FE manual. All is good, worth to read. But it is theory. Practice is the key. You can't learn it within 3 months ;)

maybe.
But I learned guitar for 12 years, then taught myself for 10 more. Found a new teacher a few years back to help with things and learnt more in 6 months that all the rest put together.
Also when I started flash I wasted a good 6 months trying to gateher information from anywhere while just playing with devices with no direction. I think all I learnt really was there was nothing out there at all apart from 2 tools and their support. That changed alot with Rusolut and their website holdiing probably the most documentation on flash in existence. And as Arvika said, you need experience. period.

You can buy a tool and start recovering early, IF the tool supports your devices you get in. Any real research will be beyond you unless you have some strong background in electronics/embedded systems and possibly a few others. Forensics can help a little, but forensics really dont get the time to dig in enough, the goal is different.

If you buy a tool that allows lic transfers, you can try it out and see if it is a fit.

To me it would be much more important to estimate how many flash recovery inquiries you're getting.

In some parts of the world flash drives are popular, in others - aren't. Hence there's much less people keeping something important on a flash media.
Memory cards and SSD drives are leveling this situation out, so it's again more up to what your clients are after.
