I realize the last post was February, however, in times past, I think I've done what the thread starter was wanting to do...assuming I understood some of what the thread starter posted...

Thread starter probably was thinking old school. Windows 3.1 - Windows for Workgroups 3.11, not so much with Windows 95-98SE, one can use sector reader/writers to locate, copy off found data onto another media; this can be done with floppy disks, hard-drives, and in some cases - even RAM drives back in those days.

In fact, in the DOS 2 - DOS 3.3, one was able to use RAM [expanded or extended] "sector" readers/writers and copy off data onto external media as long as the computer stayed ON.

Windows 7 and newer OS, this is very likely at best a complicated and frustrating process.
