Hi,
I have problems with my Seagate 7200.14.
BIOS does not recognize this drive.
So I want to connect to it via TTL interface.
I bought a 5-pin USB to TTL converter like this:
Image
Cables are connected as follows:
TTL GND > HDD GND
TTL TXD > HDD RXD
TTL RXD > HDD TXD

After connecting with RealTerm and plugging in the power of the PCB I can see outputs:
Spin Up
Trans.
Spin Up
SpinOK
(P) SATA Reset

But if I type CTRL+Z nothing happens.
What could be the problem?
Is it right that the Seagate 7200.14 has a 1.8v TTL interface.
Do I have to modify my TTL converter?

Unit's in bsy state. you probably need to gain access by short-circuiting the read channel.

My question is........ and then what??

Take Your Hard Drive to a Data Recovery Professional, it's not a series that allows many experiments.......

Can anyone tell me how to short the read channel on this 7200.14? I can't find any information. Only for other drives.

I compared the images of this link with my PCB, but I can't find out where the read and write channel could be.
Here ist my PCB:

What is your goal, to rescue data or repair your drive?

I agree.

This series is famous for all the wrong reasons.
The short points are the ones up and to the left of the second screw hole (counting from left to right and to the lower part on your second pic) -- sorry I'm on the move and can't mark them on your picture. They are either 15+16 or 17+18.
But, then what?

As colanco said, if data is important, you'd better see a pro.

I have a backup of 2016.
But on this disk are some pictures from 2017 that I want to recover.
I just want to get this disk recognized by BIOS again and then try my luck with PhotoRec.

After connecting the USB-TTL-converter and plugging in the SATA power cable I get the following output:

Even after waiting 20 min and pressing Ctrl+Z I don't get terminal access.

timing is very important.

plug the power after the one second press ctrl+z...

or 2 second...

try many times...

no need to long wait..

Try many times is a BAD IDEA if the drive is dying ....

Also even if the OP gets terminal access then what ? Without proper backup of ROM + MODULES + SYSFILES any action done by terminal might be the end of the game ....

Well,
From Your Terminal i can see that you need to short read channel as soon as the trans message comes before the second spinOK And then keep pressing CTRL+Z .Timing is Imp,But Pro Tools Have a Way of dealing with this :D
