I was going through some of comments about the "reallymine" author "https://github.com/andlabs"
and my Smartware Password project.

Am ref. to the comments here: https://github.com/andlabs/reallymine/b ... s/story.md

he wrote: "I'm not trusting my data to strangers. So I was on my own."
means, when you have a problem with your car DO NOT TRUST the mechanic better fix it yourself IF YOU ARE CAPABLE OF DOING.

few years back i came up with this solution and i did not make any extra $$$$
because someone PAID for my Research and trust me, it was really WELL PAID
i believe only 2 forum members know about who sponsored my project..

it was Limited to the Law Enforcement ONLY but NOW i would like to tell you ALL
it can be done for ANYONE willing to pay for the service.

IF your Drive is healthy then:

3000$ for WD Smartware 1-2 days Max.
4500$ for Buffalo Secure Lock 3-5 days Max.
(Ref. http://www.buffalo-technology.com/en/te ... ockwaretm/)

If you Never Locked/set your drive password, and you got similar message as this:
"Too Many Password Attempts - Locked Out" (usually with USB2.0 old types)
then you are also welcome. this will cost you 500$

Send your drive Locked, and have your Data Unlocked (copied to new drive)

If your drive is WEAK Heads/Bad sectors/Dead Head(s)
then Extra charge will be applied based on Lab work.

Head Problems estimated cost.
500GB - 1000$
1TB - 1000$- 1500$
2TB - 1000$- 2000$ (depends)

NOTE: Payment is FULL in advanced.

----->> Note for Partners:

am selecting from the people i know and trust to expand the service worldwide
one partner ONLY in Europe/USA/Asia

Requirements, any dummy PC with WINXP (.NET v4 installed) +Smartware App. installed.
and remote access.

What you will get in return is 10%

for some reason someone from the Forum prepared his PC for me and some how tried to play Smart by disconnecting my remote session while
i was working on a sample WD Locked case which he prepared, he pulled the eth. cable right after i uploaded a DUMMY file
which he thought my App. i used on my DEMO old Youtube video.

he was wrong and really and remember you will need more than your Brain to fool someone like me.

How to Start? Where to Send? Who Am i?

am updating my website soon with my Partners list and all the details
you will need to start. details will be posted here soon.

Thank you

I gave myself a headache and read through this thread again. seems the password isn't necessary to decrypt the data, meaning the password itself isn't used in the encryption algorithm.. I couldn't view the video as it was taken down by youtube for "This video has been removed for violating YouTube's policy on spam, deceptive practices and scams." But IIRC, it just showed an empty drive opening up.

I don't understand what 3 "hidden functions" are... In my RE experience, functions are there, you just need to understand them.. and the reversing part still doesn't sit well.. but aside, still no-one has named a lab that will do this for the general public. I feel that would be useful.

This is a really old post but we've recently worked on a case like this, and this statement is mostly correct in that the user password is not used in the actual encryption. Yes, flaws in the implementation allow one to narrow the AES keyspace and find the key using a dictionary attack; however, this does require a great deal of GPU power.

Benc, any chance you could help someone who stupidly locked all his life photos behind smartware. Poor guy really has no other alternative. He is willing to pay as he has no backup.

If you have a solution to deal with Spyglass smartware password system, you would have a solution for a newer drives (Palmers, Chargers, ArrowHD, ... etc) . Same lock/unlock smartware procedure...matter is to have factory unlocked pcb to deal with SA .

Its not the same..
besides about those new Palmer..etc (un supported families) i don`t have any (Unlocked PCB yet - expensive + not much in demand)
Those Old types + the families i mentioned ARE 100% SUPPORTED (supported means I TESTED IT FOR LONG and thats why am telling you here ITS NOT THE SAME)

How do you know it is not the same if you just said you don’t have unlocked palmers yet ? I do have , and I know how it works . And I am referring to only Spayglases SED drives as you can see in my post.
