A couple things to note:

1. This is another paid update
2. The new version will not open DE tasks created by previous versions. That said, I just wrote a blog on how to import the old sector map into a new DE task, the same way I would with PC3000, when my task gets corrupted.

I somehow missed the notice about all updates being paid, but it is only $120. I pay more than 20 times that much every year to keep my PC3K systems updated.

It looks like the drive has g-list problems hence there is no way to create a head map in DE. The hdd translator has to function properly in order to do head map on Samsung hdd.

What about reading the zones table and adding the LBA ranges to copy according to that ?

Zones table will tell you what LBA range belong to a specific head ....

Same drive with older MRT (2.0.x.x) and no "The default module list will be used!" message in Samsung module can create head map in DE!

Using the "default module list" is cause that the modules entry points are wrong, and that's why reading A-list is failed when we try creating head map in DE.

I can see 2 ways fo MRT to create the head map :

1 - Translate LBA to internal physical C/H/S and group LBAs according to Head.

2 - Read the zone tables and check what LBAs belong to what head.

If you have defects on the A-List that will just mean that some LBAs will end up on "spare" sectors that might be on a diferent head.

If you ignore A-List the only "risk" is to have LBAs that belong to a good head "swapped" to a place on a bad head and you will not be able to read those sectors. This if method 2 is used as internal VSC to calculate phisical place for LBA should account with defects on the G-List...

Any "decent" Samsung firmware tool should be able to read your zone tables and display them in a way that you will know what range of LBAs are stored on a specific head (if you don't consider swaps caused by A-List).

From there you can do a head map (or even input the range of sectors to image manualy on your tool) even if the A-List is damaged and you can't use the commands to calculate LBA to CHS (phisical).

Just tested on a unstable 1TB M8 drive and it works ....Head map was created in 9 sec in DE....Impressive....But you have to repower the drive many times if it's unstable and does not read all the modules at start-up.

It's very fast because the tool is using internal modules to calculate to what head a LBA belongs (and maeking your map) instead of "quering" the drive by VSC one LBA by one to figure out to what head that LBA belongs.
