I currently have a HDD that is failing to be recognised by Windows.
I should point out that this drive is a storage drive and does not host an OS.

At the point of failure my machine was having a slowdown, to which I restarted the machine; which is when I found out that my HDD was no longer being recognised.

However, windows does recognise the drive in Disk Management (See screenshots)

When the HDD is plug in and powered on it is making the following noise which may give some clues:

At the moment I do not want to initialise the disk as there is data (photos) I need to pull off it first; anyone have any ideas what or how to fix the HDD?

Hard drive details
Serial No: S1D1Y0JF
Model: ST1000DM003
DOM: 04/2012

The disk has a physical failure, but without the right tools you will not be able to repair it.

Yeah, that's a heads failure, possible media damage as well. Only hope for recovery is to get it to a data recovery company.

If you're in the UK as your profile says, I'd recommend you go to http://pcimage.co.uk

Thanks guys!

The drive doesn’t sound very nice at all, definitely bad heads and likely media damage as well :-(
