the hdd is wd40efrx

the drive is getting some read errors (hdsentinel reports it) its now with 4 weak sectors reported... no bad sectors still

when getting the files from the drive i got 4 stops with read error from FreeFileSync program abort - ignore - continue

I want to open the drive and clean the heads of the drive

im curious will this drive work afterwards? (will test it after for seeding replicated data from torrents that i have) Im curious will i kill it off the bat or will it last a month lol?

Do NOT open the drive, you’ll only make things worse, not better!

the only thing i can do if i dont open the drive is zero the drive

and write and read test patterns but i have a feeling the raw read error rate will increase hmmm

thanks for not letting me open the drive... i was prepared to dump the drive because of bad read heads on some bytes...

what happened ? now its fine after testing the drive several days i put 3 tb of data again ( not the same data off course)

some cool but not too important stuff

what do you think problems with the platter surface that recovered ? problems with heads??

id love to get your input guys

thanks its stable for now... what really bothers me is that this drive was used for backups ( had other main drive with that content that i formated to another project)
this drive was synced updated the day before and the program FreeFileSync didn't got any errors by then... i formatted the main drive

only when recovering data one week later that i got on 4 different files "windows could not copy the file error" and that got me worried and the read error rate started to grow from 739 to 999 when i copyed that 3.2TB that i didnt have backup

is there any way to prevent this silent corruption? any tool? i wouldn't mind to check every file if was good or not

another example of this silent corruption is for example the picture that i have uploaded here

one of then doesn't open .... i think the file got corrupted after all this years and the corruption on the main drive synced to the other drive and corrupted the backup file too

Really a thank you for taking the time to try to help me :)

I have an offsite backup updated until 2 years ago....

Lets see if in that baxkup i can recover the picture or was already corrupted.

I didnt use any recovery tool.

I have several thousand pictures from me, my family and friends from tge last 15 years and counting

I will talk more later on this topic my friend

Strangely the red 4tb drive continues to work just fine one month after....great you guys convinced me to not open it
