Hi guys, I have a 4 TB USB WD model wd40nmzw that presents this problem: as soon as the disk is connected, it runs for a few seconds and stops, no noise the heads do not move. I then took a sata card to connect it to mrt, as soon as I connect it the disk does not spin while if I put the firmware back on the donor pcb the disk runs and emits the usual head noises that do not align. I then copied the contents of the original rom and flashed it on the pcb donor, nothing to do the disk does not spin and goes in reset continuously. I think Rom is corrupt, partly because I see strange characters edit within winhex. What do you advise me to do?In attachment the original rom thanks to all the original pcb is 2060-800041-003 rev p1 I have change with sata pcb number 2060-800022-000 rev p2

Out of curiosity can you indicate the numbering of the ROM chip that carries the PCB of this HDD?

Sorry I use the Google translator and some things I write are not understood.
I refer to the reference of the ROM chip.

You have passed a bin file of 8 MBytes and if I'm not mistaken, that is 4 MBits (512kBytes).
You can check?

you have right, I think it's a bad chip identification of my chip programmer, but when i put the original chip rom on pcb i see the same problem, no spin and continuous reset

In my experience with Spyglass drives (have done quite a few), a spin up and immediate spin down has been heads every time. Usually with at least one dirty head, indicating MD.

the problem is that not having a pcb to be able to connect I can not understand the problem, I tried to use the wd usb adapter of mrt using the cables I connected e71 etc. but I had no results, I also eliminated the capacitors on I went out and the sata port was connected to me once but without transmitting anything. They are therefore looking for a pcb to be able to at least make the diagnosis to the customer

-:) I'm not use this method, I think it's important to make a right diagnosis for any customer, it's my deformation - :) I have a cleaning room and I make regular head swap but this disk it's new for me. Thanks for support, I search a 002 pcb and make a regular diagnostic. Thanks friend

+1 "it's important to make a right diagnosis" that why you should not power on this drive before a checking heads.

Right now you are risking customers data. As pcimage stated "Usually with at least one dirty head, indicating MD."
My advise would be: Get a donor drive, take heads out and put them back a couple of times. If donor is still working then go back to your cleaning room and check patients heads under your microscope.

Unfortunately it seems he wants to “diagnose it to death” :-(

@magnetepazzo ... Please accept the advice you’ve been given and at least examine the heads from patient microscopically, for the sake of your client.

Why do you affirm this? I have explained well that the heads do not move and do not click and as soon as the disk is also powered with the pcb usb, start but stops immediately, does not even reach the speed of release of the heads so why say this? I do not want to kill the disk and I want to offer the best solution for my client, since this flaw is atypical in my opinion, I think at least you need to connect to see some logs, otherwise it would be absurd to think of replacing the heads without even understanding the reason immediate stop, I do not think the doctor works a patient without first having done the preparatory exams.

Can you upload the donor and client's ROM?
