Hey buddy - if you try to install those drivers and they aren't showing up in device manager, select LEGACY DEVICES in the device manager to find the device and install the driver. I can pull up the page to get you exact working and screenshots, if you don't already have it figured out.

It drove me fking NUTS! They are the WORST at giving help. They have dog crap for support. NOTHING for instructions. It's beyond pathetic.

And they will give you the same crappy answer if you ask them 100 different ways. They don't care. It's "figure it out yourself" ... Reinvent the wheel. They don't care. Efficiency isn't their strong suit.

My Strange experience

A) patient , 1 TB usb 3 2060 771961 001 RevA WD10JMVW 11AJGS1
B) donor 1 TB Sata 2060 771960 000 RevA WD10JPVX 22JC3T0

I replaced B Rom (donor)to A usb PCB . (Delsoldered from sata and solder to usb pcb)
MRT read (donor rom) all modules and ROM over only USB connection to computer. Also read and write module working.

I tried with A original ROM . MRT Not read modules and rom over usb connection
It's very very strange.

Hello
I ordered this adapter on Aliexpress but it does not work with PC-3000.
https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/MRT-WD-West-USB3-0-mobile-hard-disk-card-switch-SATA-PC3000-universal-USB-SATA-circuit/32824345502.html?spm=a2g0w.search0104.3.1.3ae85ce4c63Hna&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1_10065_10068_319_10892_317_10696_10084_453_454_10083_10618_10304_10307_10820_10821_537_10302_536_10902_10843_10059_10884_10887_321_322_10103,searchweb201603_56,ppcSwitch_0&algo_expid=8a77760d-dd79-4b5c-ba44-b717c0ce3e39-0&algo_pvid=8a77760d-dd79-4b5c-ba44-b717c0ce3e39

What ???

Are you talking about those MRT ... ADAPTORS ? ... It just convert USB PCB to SATA ... Shouldn't need any driver ...

Ha. No -- I was talking about installing the drivers for the MRT hardware. :) And the tech support? I'd reword the question 20 different ways ... and they'd COPY AND PASTE! nothing else! lol. It was amazing.

It looks like the 12 holes on the back of the card ... is to be connected [to] the adapter. Does that transfer power ? What do those do ?

Did you guys get a manual with it?

Thanks

Examine the back of the card. Are there any power traces running between the SATA +5V power pins and the 12-pin header? If not, then the drive requires USB power.

IIUC, the patient HDD is probably a SED, in which case VSCs would be disabled.

The more I think about MRT's adapter, the more pointless it seems. AISI, the switch IC (U2) serves no purpose, in which case there is no need for U1 (its 3.3V supply).

The differential pairs at C9 - C12 violate all sorts of trace routing rules for transmission lines. For example, in order to maintain the required characteristic impedance, the pairs should be close and parallel, of equal length, and the Tx pair should not couple with the Rx pair. (Of course the addition of 4 wires by the user makes a mess of these rules in any case, but it still does not justify sloppy routing.)

AISI, it would have been much better to have connected E7x to the SATA coupling capacitors (C5 - C8), without the intervening componentry (unless the designer thought he was using a redriver IC, but misinterpreted its datasheet ???).

I can't see why the tool should have any bearing on the functionality of the adapter. It's really just a passive device (U2 and U1 are just placebos, AFAICT).

Edit: I'm reminded of Rube Goldberg ...

That's exactly what I was hoping. Yes, there are... (and thats how it appears it was used from other pictures) ... but I wanted to confirm. :)

Thanks

This is the picture that made me think it was power; there's no other place they could be getting power to the drive except through there, but, wanted to confirm.

MMk, new 'weird' news; connected the device to PC-3000 ... and D.E. says "no SATA devices attached." Does that mean that something's potentially wrong with the wiring ? Or is this not compatible with PC-3000 (if anyone has experience or knowledge thereof). Thanks again! :)

I bought one of these out of curiosity and was determined to get it to work!

Here's how I've wired it up....

MRT WD_USB.jpg

And these are the caps I removed...

So I connected it up to a SATA port on PC3K with no USB power and drive spun up OK, but stays BSY.

Thought it might be my wiring or the drive itself. So checked wiring (all OK) and tried another drive... same.

But with buggering around with it, I disconnected the wire to E17 on the green block while power on....

And then pushed the red wire in and voilà!! Full ID, FW access, the lot!......

In fact, it works with any one of the 4 wires disconnected and then connected after power-on. But with all 4 connected, just get BSY.

No USB power required :-)

If this "BSY problem" persists, the following modification should make things easier:

Thanks for your input.

I do understand the logic behind your suggestion and would like to try it, but struggling to locate a source of a small enough SMD SPST switch in small enough quantities.

Happy to try it for curiosity but don’t wanna spend too much!

Use an ordinary sized switch and run wires to the pads. No need for smt.

Image

If the PCB allows it, there may be a way to drill a hole to accommodate the switch, or you may be able to anchor it at one of the screw holes.

Farnell have all kinds of small switches you could buy for next to nothing and epoxy to the PCB.

An alternative solution would be to short the pads of R3 with tweezers. This will pull the SEL pin high and disconnect both SATA pairs. This procedure should be safe, although inelegant. However, it would serve as proof of concept prior to embarking on any modifications.
