Hi,
I fix laptops for a koha (small donation) in our community but every so often get a problem which stumps me as my technical ability is limited in areas outside PC operating systems.
The issue is I have a Mac Pro with 4 WD 6400AAKS drives in it and I am trying to recover all data I can from those 4 drives and none of the drives will spin when I connect to the power supply. The drive gets hot where the power plugs into the drive and there is a smell of burning plastic.
The adapter works on other 3.5 " HDDs and I have tried 2 adapters neither work on the Mac drives.
I would appreciate any suggestions that might solve the problem.
Many thanks
Scott

this is similar to the adapter I am using

Check the TVS diodes. If they are shorted, don't use that adapter again.

Scott: You are kind of entering another world here. More than likely the 4 drives will be in a RAID configuration, and it sounds like all 4 drives have some kind of failure. If you have no experience at working with RAIDs and how to recover them, can I respectfully suggest before you do too much, refer the job out to a professional data recovery company near you.

If you do have experience then we are here to help.
