 Post subject: ST31000524AS with scratch on surface

Hi
i have this old ST31000524AS in my labs with circular scratch on surface, no terminal access, spin, click then go off. recognized as st_m13fqbl

i try short circuit but no luck

it's worth replacing head from compatible donor?

any advice for this seagate cases ( we don't have PC-3000, but I can evaluate the purchase of specific software as i see many cases like this )

It is highly unlikely that this drive is recoverable. You do have significant media damage directly in the SA.

i would not say it is unrecoverable. I've already done suchlike things but there are a couple of things to sort out.
Shorting anything won't help and the more times you power it up the less data you will have.
(does shorting stand for magic spell or what?)
