Hi,

I have 6TB WD60EFRX which was previously connected with a Inateck FD2002 2-bay USB 3.0 drive bay to a Intel NUC-Kit D54250WYK running ubuntu with ext4 as FS. The drive suffered no shock (it didn't fall down, it didn't get hit), but was as of 2 weeks ago, not mountable anymore. The drive mostly stored rather unimportant data (90% movies, some porn, etc.) but also hosted my very well maintained Kodi database and some other important personal data.

The first symptoms were a spin up sound, followed by clack clack clack. Then it turned into no more spin up sound, but only clack clack clack.

Yesterday, I transferred the drive to another external usb3 enclosure (iomega) and I was able to successfully spin up the drive and restore the ext4 partition with testdisk.
I was about to copy data to another drive (counting files) when a "wheeeee" scratching noise occurred.

Since then I haven't started the drive anymore.

I don't own AceLabs pc3000 udma hardware, and most likely never will.

Now I have an identical WD60EFRX (same DCM:HBNCKTJABB, same Preamp, same Heads Map => Compatible Donor Drive from donor drives . com) and I would need a head swap, most likely. After that I would need a data recovery omitting possibly scratched platter surface.

I am about to send the drive and donor drive to helpdisk in serbia, because I am not really willing to pay much (500 € max.).

If anyone can give me advice, any, or an offer, I'd be helped a lot. Please PM me and help me out, Gurus.

Much appreciated.

as for me, it would be 1k+, probably, depending on the condition of the internals. 500 € is very low for such drive. These are pretty sensitive instruments in all aspects.

Hi guys,

thx for the offers and comments. I did send the broken and Donor drive to Helpdisc.rs last Friday with UPS and a lot of Bubble Wrap. I am aware the price is very good and I'm very grateful for their help.
Fingers crossed.

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all.
