Someone sent me a 3TB WD drive that had been worked on already. It's a WD30EZRX-00D8PB0. They said it had a blown PCB, which is normally not a big issue on these. Even if it passes through to the pre-amp, these drives are some of the easiest for head swaps. The problem is, who ever worked on it before, botched the U12 swap, and broke two of the legs off the chip. Also, not normally a huge deal on these, but still, an added headache.

Got a donor, same model number, but this one was manufactured in Thailand, where as the source drive was manufactured in Malaysia. Put the PCB on the source drive, and it clicks once, but goes ready with an error. Then when you go to find SA SPT, it clicks once, spins down, spins up and errors out. I had this happen once before, and it was also a head issue that had occurred.

So I swapped the heads. Now the drive comes ready with no errors at all, and sounds perfect. It auto-detects as a Diablo3S family.

However, it still cannot detect SA SPT. So even though these two drives are the exact same model, and only manufactured a month and a half apart, I have a feeling there is a firmware compatibility issue.

Here is what I'm getting when I try to detect SA SPT

Code:

Should I try finding a parts drive that is from around the same time, and also from the same country of origin? I'm thinking the country of origin is the culprit here. Does anyone have a ROM donor that might be compatible with this? Feel free to PM if necessary.

Thank You.

Try to use a Loader from a drive with the same ROM FW.

Does anyone happen to have a loader for this drive by chance? I'm not having any luck finding what I need. Feel free to PM if you prefer. Thank you!

HDDsurgery has it in its FW database.
