I’m getting conflicting results when I check my C drive for errors.

If I run chkdsk c: from an administrators prompt I get this result
“Windows has checked the file system and found problems.
Please run chkdsk /scan to find the problem and queue them for repair”

If I then immediately use the Check feature of the C, Properties, Tools
It says “No errors found”.

I’m hesitant to run the chkdsk /scan option because of the conflict in results.

I can supply screen shots if needed.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

My strong recommendation would be to backup your data and replace the hard drive. It sounds like the HDD has bad sectors and Windows is doing its best to fix them, however Windows is notoriously bad at doing this. So NEVER run CHKDSK on a drive if the data is important to you. You may end up with bunch of corrupted files.

Can you send us a SMART report of the drive?

The SMART report does look okay so this could be just a Windows 'thing'. Anyway first answer still applies, backup your data.

I image and clone my C drive once a week, every week.

I may try imaging the SSD, then restoring the image to a new SSD, running chkdsk c:.
If I get the same error I will then run chkdsk /scan as suggested in the error message.
Then use the properties tab of C to check the drive for errors. If ok, I will then reboot and run
chkdsk c: and see if the error returns.

I don't believe the current SSD is bad but I'm willing to try another SSD.

I have never been a fan of Microsoft's disk error checking or solutions. In my opinion they are useless.

As a side note, my biggest gripe is that if Win 10 pops up a message that there is a disk problem and to click here to schedule a repair.
1. When I click to schedule a repair and reboot the repair never occurs.
2. The error message never tells me what drive has the error. If Win 10 is so smart and can tell me I have drive errors, it should also tell me
what drive is having the errors.

I will try to return and update this thread after I have imaged the drive separately from my weekly backups and run chkdsk c: and chkdsk /scan.
