If the procedure does not work, then this would suggest that there is something in the adaptive sections that is getting in the way. The next step would be to transfer the adaptives one at a time, and then see if the donor still spins.

I be tempted to try the same and if this works re-burn all the ROM chips with a programmer

The chips are 50c each
