I'm looking for help to unlock a WD7500BPVT that I got with a Fujitsu laptop. The Fujitsu will not boot, even from USB, with the WD drive installed, it asks for a drive password that I don't have. If I install the drive into an HP 6930p, the laptop will boot from USB. If I boot MX Linux, I can see the WD drive via hdparm - I
I have read that the master password for WD drives is “WDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCW”. If I try to unlock the drive using hdparm I get what looks like an error message with some 'sense bytes'. I have an old Hiren boot CD image that I have on a bootable USB, on the Hiren image is Victoria 4.46b. If I boot the Hiren image, Windows does not see the drive & Victoria does not either so far as I can tell. Any tips / pointers would be helpful.
Thanks

A quick update, I tried MHDD 4.5 & 4.6
I get an error "Drive is not ready" with "ERR" & "BUSY" at the top of the screen.
I'm running MHDD via the Ultimate Boot CD, but am guessing that MHDD is actually booted, and it looks like it's based on a DOS?
So, looks like Linux sees the drive & hdparm sees it as locked, but I can't unlock it via the master password I found online. Windows / DOS does not see the drive at all.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

A small amount of progress.
I read here about changing the BIOS settings for the SATA controller:
https://wiki.restarters.net/Advanced_hard_disk_tools

I changed mine from AHCI to IDE & can now see the disk via MHDD

The bad news is that the master password does not work!

I'll try via Victoria & report back.

EDIT:

WDMARVEL looks interesting, so will try that next. I'm not bothered about the data on the drive, so maybe I can simply erase the password & data.

I could not get WDMarvel to run via the Hiren Boot Disk on USB, something about a driver error.

I have now run MHDD & Victoria from USB, both programs now see the WD drive & both give an error when trying the Master password, perhaps it is no longer 10x WDC + W (31 characters) or + WD (32 characters).

Any tips on how to run WDMarvel from a USB stick gratefully received.

No spare drive handy to do a real windows install on ? Don't forget to read the documents about 32/64 bit drivers.

No, I only have a laptop with a single hard drive & 2 usb ports. The WD drive is taking the hard drive slot so I need to run W7 or higher from USB. I can putthe OS onto another hard drive, but that would have to be connected via USB & booted from USB.

No options.
The password can be reset only in PIO mode. Via API - not allowed.
those, in the program, this is items - IDE/compatible, SATA/AHCI
or
Serial>TTL

Do you need to unlock it to get data or just to re-use?

Just read your post properly and see you don’t need the data.

If you cover postage, I’ll unlock and erase it for free.

I do not need the data, just want the disk erased & usable.

Thanks for the offer, but I would like to learn how to do this myself if possible. Can you tell me how you would do this?

Thanks.

cancunia,
He has a complex and everything is sharpened for such work.
It will not work on USB.
Or stick Disk into SATA and boot WinPE x32 from USB .
Or you need a terminal adapter.

Success!

I found a program called zu.exe
"zu.betta_fix_020813.zip"

Created a usb disk with Rufus / Freedos & put zu.exe on the root of the drive.
Booted from usb, typed in zu /p
10 seconds later, all done.

Security status now "OFF Frozen" according to Victoria

This did not work on another locked (Samsung) drive that I have which came in the same package.

For some reason my Slimjet (Chrome based) browser does not like some of the links on this forum, when I tried your link in the 3rd post it would not let me save the file, your link to wdmarvel worked fine. Sorry about that.
I found the ZU link after reading about it via a Google search.

Samsung model is HM321HI

Strange, but this link works.
http://files.hddguru.com/index.php
the latest version is here, the author did not update it further. The fact that you found the exact same copy, except with the English text of the instructions, for which the translator wants to receive subsidies. ))

HM321HI- M7E family, cannot ZU.
I have not tested it, removing the password, it should be supported by the SHT/SHTR оr ZOC Script
