does anyone know where i can find a hard drive circuit board for my hard drive? it is shot and i need to recover the data. my info is as follows incase anyone has an old drive they wouldnt mind getting rid of or can steer me in the right direction... i did check ebay and have been searching on google for the past 2 hours with no luck.

I would suggest to find exact the same drive and use its pcb... Or just repair the original pcb.

Umm. Well, exactly how people do repair pcbs: find what is failed/fried and change it

i know i know... but like how do you find out what is fried? is it obvious by looking at it? i'm a total noob to this... drive failure isnt exactly something i deal with every day, so any help, links, guides, etc are appriciated. thanks!

Usually WDs are failing with visible damage. If there is no visible damage to any chip, then have to figure out by using multimeter (or oscilloscope sometimes). It is impossible to give "service manual" for doing this, you should be familiar with this process .

I still think that there are big chances that you can find proper drive for doing pcb swap.

ok, so i took off the logic board and there is a chip one of the corners that has visible damage to it. i can't read the numbers on it because it melted. i am looking for a new board right now, posting everywhere, asking everyone... apparently my drive is a special one that was made for dell, so the first half of the model number designates it as a 2mb cache, 100gb drive. the second half of the model number designates it as having a special edition 8mb cache. please check your drives if you have a 100gb wd drive! i would even pay to just rent your logic board from you! thanks!

Usually it is enough to change that chip. The chip is L6278, so just change it and probably the drive will work again.

you're right... that is exactly the chip that it is. I am having a tough time finding someone who can sell me one... is there anyone you might reccomend? mine says L6278 1.2. Also, I am in the united states. thanks!

This is spindle motor driver. I do not know where to buy such chip, but you can find that chip on many WD models.
