Hi Folks,
I am working with a
WD5000AAJB-00UHA0
DCM: HANCNV2CAB
The PCB does not have a U12.

I am ordering a part drive but they are kind of expensive so I am hoping to get a good match for heads donor on first try.
Can anyone tell me what to match up that will give me best chance of a good part drive or is this question asking for information that is too sensitive?

Thanks

PCB hasn't U12 because it's ROYL. There are several things which are important for a Head Swap:

- WD5000AAJB-**UH**
- compatible head map
- also vendor of the heads is important too.

It's ONLY from my experience, not exact.
ROYL drives are very sensitive for a Head Exchange.
I suggest you wait more posts here, because here are many clever people who has a big experience with WD.

Thanks Creator,
I just found an old post with the DCM breakdown. It matches the info I have also so I will match up the parts of the DCM I have always matched up. It seems to have worked 90% of the time in the past.

DCM is a popular myth here.
If you find donor with matched DCM but with incompatible Head Map, it wouldn't work, I can guarantee 100%!

Well I got a part drive that I believe is a very good match. Put donor heads in bad drive. Still just seeks for a few seconds and then spins down. Same as with original heads. When I put the PCB from the bad drive on the donor drive, it did not detect due to incorrect rom but at least the drive stayed spinning. Worked with alignment for a while with no luck. Put donor heads back in donor drive and I had to play with alignment a bit but drive came ready and scanned OK. So putting donor heads back in bad drive. Headmap also matches. WD, ugh.
