Google Price of "Neodymium magnet price" - Specially the old drives (the very old i mean).

This is One of the re-using again
OR
those defected/broken drives have a market everywhere (volumes by tons)

I know the Dubai market (at least) collected there then shipped to China (HDD manufactures). You see now drives from the same Family with Diff. HM

big market out there

same answer..
I have about 100 drives. I am pretty sure it would cost me extra that the re-imbursement to send them to the home of delicious spaghetti. They all work, but scanning 100 drives is significant time as well. actually cheaper for me to throw them away :-/

Yes, I know it 's a low price, this because aluminium it's not 100% pure, the rest of parts of hard drive is not of same value...

This can be good only for people with a large amount that have good transport price in Italy.

Hard drive refurb.

For damaged drives with for example damaged head(s) i can disable head(s) and re-sell drive with lower capacity.

If drive have bad sectoers i can remap them to factory defect list and re-sell drive.

If drive have bad head(s) and / or pre-amp i can re-use PCB (sell it on eBay for data recovery as people might need a specific PCB). Ican offer adaptation service as well (move ROM from older PCB to newer one).

Also i can use HDDs for research firmware - http://www.hddoracle.com/viewforum.php?f=59

Example - I can buy a 1TB HDD with one damaged head and disable it and i will get a 750 GB drive that i can still re-sell for more than 1€ / 50 cents that i'm offering for the damaged drive !!!

:D :D :D
