Alright. But what would it entail if there is or is not a ROM in U12 on my PCB ? And can the owner of the defective HDD attempt something with those diods ? Thanks for the quick reply ! If the drive has ROM chip swap it to the good board...if it doesn't ...

Well, what is a MCU ? And what do you mean by U12, is this a code on the PCB ? Let's have a look... I see many E something, a few P something and TV someting, but no U something, if that's what you mean (I haven't unscrewed it to look at the other ...

I did one of these yesterday. 512Kb ROM (U12) physically transferred to 771692 PCB with no issues. These “legless” chips are trickier to transfer than the “normal” ones, so check your solder work :-) I did physically swap the chip, and yes it ...

How can I backup it?
I swaped the ROM (U12) to the other Board in the Same position as bevore.
The Original PCB is now on the disk but it makes now the same sounds. It sounds like Spinup for 3 Times and shut down. |

So you'll need a 1692 PCB and switch the U12 chip, then figure out a way to decrypt the clone (assuming it is encrypted, most are)

... chip it might. However, this drive has an adaptive ROM that makes it unlikely to just work after a cold PCB swap. You'd have to transfer the U12 ROM chip (if it has one) to make it actually work. If you're just looking to get data back off of it, you're better off just temporarily gluing ...
