Hi,
The bottom left corner chip on the PCB has fried so drive will not boot up. I would like to get the data off.

Can I just replace the board to resolve this or do I need the whole drive. I see a lot of similar drives on ebay but I'm unsure how closer match I need? Do I need the same drive, same board and same firmware? Which info from below do I need to match?

The details are:

Try matching the 4 or 4 letter code on the top of the PCB.

Just a warning though, sometimes when PCB gets fried other components can also get damaged, such as preamp and/or heads. If this is the case, you will need the help of a professional to save your data.

4004? IT should read M8FYB or similar

I am having a similar issue.

I have a maxtor 6L200R0

The part number for the board appears to be 302007102, and the number on the chip is 040121400. (it also says L-Beagle-D4D4)

Can anyone assist me in determining the proper replacement board to get. I have found boards on ebay with the same numbers on the chip, but how do I make sure that the board that I am getting has the same firmware?

The last pic above shows the fried chip, I think? The one on the left.

Could someone please confirm which of the above details I need in order to get hold of a replacement PCB, where to puchase and if a replacement pcb would solve the problem?

Will it solve the problem? Only you can tell. Change it, then:

Option 1 - It works
Option 2 - Drive starts clicking. There's nothing you can do with a screwdriver and a multimeter.
Option 3 - Drive doesn't click but does not calibrate and is not recognised : see option 2
Option 4 - You fry the new PCB too. See options 2 and 3 then live without your data or ask a pro. Or buy the necessary equipment and knowledge and repair your drive.

As you want to do everything by yourself, assume every risk. Maybe everything ends at step 1, it was nothing magic but a full stroke of good luck.
