This drive came in today... When powered it remains BUSY for probably 30-45 seconds, then finally comes ready. It IDs with no problem, but when attempting to scan in MHDD I get all IDNF errors, so seems like a translator problem. Backing up the modules results in lots of errors. Attempting to regenerate the translator fails (on salvation HD doctor... I'm not sure how much I trust this yet). I am able to read the P-List and G-List with no problems.

I'm trying to figure out which of these are necessary for the drive to function, which will be functional if replaced with one from a different drive, and which will need to be specific to this drive.

Looking around I have seen it suggested that the following command will regenerate the translator:

Code:
57 44 43 12 00 A0 FB

Is this appropriate for this model of drive? (TB Eagle)

To be more specific, I was under the understanding that as long as module 43 is intact, modules 20 and 25 can be recreated. Is this not the case? Is there some other module that is preventing the translator from being recreated?

Still no luck... the 02 module seems to be the source of my woes.

Had another experience where some trashed entries in the error lists, can't recall if it was a P- or G- , prevented the translator regeneration.
Solution : manually edited , removed the obviously wrong entries, updated the list (with the necessary recalc. and corrections) and translator regeneration worked.
On Maxtor is not unusual to find some trash (especially in older models) in the error lists, and this can prevent the drive to start correctly OR make the drive start but with the well-known translator issues and translator regen didn't work (error !) - this may apply to your case, also. Take a look, maybe this can help.
