Hello, I have a WD1600JS which unfortunately got damaged.
Is it possible to replace the PCB with another, in order to recover my data?

I have heard that, WD disks detect the PCB change and they do not work as other disks do. Is it true?

In addition, I was not able to find similar model in today's market, but I have found the WD1600AAJS model. Seems to be compatible but it is different model. Does this board work with my drive?

Disk Details:
WD1600JS Caviar SE 160GB
LBA: 312581808
S/N: WCANM1324214
MDL: WD1600JS - 23MHB0
DATE: 25 OCT 2005
DCM: D5CACTJAH
P/N: 39M0140
FRU: 71P7297

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

No.

You need to match the P/N of the PCB and transfer the internally programmed data from the damaged PCB to the new one.
Without this, will not work.

Regards,
Janos
