Hello all,

I have a strange case. Original problem drive could not become ready. I verified that PCB was good. Problem: Some modules in SA damaged. Mainly RSVD and P-list. Could not write to the SA modules. So then it must be weak head or some small damage to SA area. Performed heads swap, then drive would become ready but not ID. Tried head swap again with new heads and the same thing. Drive spins up, becomes ready but does not ID. Also I can not Read SA and modules now.

P.S. I also tried Hot Swap no luck and I did not see any media damage.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Wow,
Pepe you are quick :D

I honestly have not tried, I just assumed that I did a good job with the Head swap. But you are right, I will try after I have had some dinner just to be sure.

and somes cases i had a perfect match.

I just tried the last heads that I exchanged and they still work in the native drive.

Cool,

Now u can draw the conclusion that the surfaces are probably intact and the problem is elsewhere...
do the drives have the same type of head/preamp?

pepe

Update,

I tried another set of heads yesterday since I still had the drive. It Imaged perfectly. I was shocked. Not sure why I had to try 3 different sets of heads, they all had the same specs and same preamp. I am not sure what made the difference. When I have some spare time I will analyze all three sets in more detail to see if I can find any differences.

Thanks again for all the replies.
