Hi All
i have a drive WD3200BEVT where the drive is clicking and will not get ready. using the pc3000 utility i am able to switch off a faulty head and get the drive to show correct ID and so on, however on imaging data cant be recovered due to disabled head,
i have a donor as you will see below, a head swap has been carried out and the drive will not id, and clicks and then switches off.

my main question is are these drives suffereing from any alignment issues like the 3.5 inch drives or am i missing something.

my donor drive is definitely a working drive prior to head swap.

my drive details are below

patient drive.
WD3200BEVT-60ZCTO
5 Aug 2008
DCM HACVJHNB
Thailand

Donor Drive
WD3200BEVT-22ZCTO
12 MAr 2008
DCM DBCVJBNB
Thailand
i know my DCM code is a bit different

I have read the different forums and differnet articles are describing different requirements for this to work.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Alignment should not be an issue with these.
If the donor heads are still in good condition, then it was probably incompatible.

here is an update
i restored both the drives back to original condition as i suspect there may be media damage which wud explian drive failure in the first place.
After putting the donor head back to donor drive, donor drive does not operate either and just clicks away so looks like heads have been damaged,
as to moving the heads i extremely doubt anything went wrong as i have done other drives with head swaps and no issues.
so i guess it may be head damage due to platter damage.

just looking for peoples thoughts here.

Thank you

maybe you damaged heads will working with these drives. Have you ever successfully performed head swap on 2.5" WD?

There is a simple procedure which must be followed to protect heads while working with these drives.
