Ok, here is the story..

I've got a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM hard drive that I was using for storage. family photos, stuff with high sentimental value. I had been consolidating stuff to this drive, then was going to make a backup of it. I haven't had it long, hadn't gotten around to the backup stuff yet.

I was moving it from one computer to another.. The computer was off, I plugged in the data and power connector..
Turned on the computer, and heard a small "pop" sound, and I think I saw a small spark around the power connector area.

Now, I get nothing from the drive. doesn't even spin up.. I tried it on another computer, and still got nothing..

Now, without being an engineer, this is just my guess, but I suspect that something happened to the board on the bottom of the drive when I heard that "pop" sound.

So.. To my question..

Is it possible to get the same model ST31000528AS drive and swap out that board? The idea that I may have lost what is on that drive makes me sick...

Just replacing PCB won't do any good.
Post a picture of your board, so we can point to possible problem or search this forum for TVS.
