Try using this tool:
"Get Data Back" from http://www.runtime.org/
It helped me before with this kind of problem.
Read about it first and you could get all your data, as long as this drive is physically and logically good and has no errors.

Try some logical data recovery software like R-Studio or GetDataBack - ensure you read the manual first.

Clone your drive to another one and do not install these recovery programs on the drive you are trying to recover data from - do not write again to the drive you are recovering data from

Make sure you won't write anything new before you recover it, or you will lost your data forever.

Try TestDisk. It's free.

Just for understanding, if there are some partitions on a drive, and one of them in unallocated,
or for some reason the system can not access the files there, can he install or copy things to some
other partitions on the drive and still be able to recover the "lost" files for the unallocated one?
as far as I know this is possible, but there is no way or reason I should do so. just asking this to
get more info no the logically part.

and another thing, from your experience here, GetDataBack or R-Studio? which is better? any reviews?

Try with Partition Table Doctor 3.5 to find correct partition. Dont need data recovery.

R-studio is good for Data Recovery

I wouldn't write on the original drive, unless you can undo whatever changes you make.

In any case, before letting any DR software loose on your drive, I would survey the damage with a disc editor in read-only mode.

Could we see the partition table and boot sector with Microsoft's Sector Inspector?
http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/SecInspect.zip

Extract the above archive to the one folder and execute the SIrun.bat file. The procedure will generate a report file named SIout.txt.

The following site is an excellent resource:

Hi!

First I would ask the original poster what os he is using if any and what filing sytem was on the 'unallocated partition'.

Then I would advise him to make a by sector copy of the partition or better still of the whole drive to work on.

Then maybe I might offer advice on which software utility to use to repair or recover from the partition.

What is the main things you find in R-Studio that GDB can't provide?
I'm asking since I never used R-Studio, and if it's better than I might consider using it instead.

Both are equally beneficial, and both are better under different situations.

Also, both have help files and manuals available :)

Hi,
with R-Studio you can simulate a raid-controller and recreate a raid-array in various combinations of the disks/partitions/imagefiles.
GDB is more userfriendly/straight forward in my opinion.

Greetings,
Zuujin

The short answer is from a technical standpoint you can use another partition on the same disk and not over-write data. However, this is still not recommended since it might be that the disk itself has some kind of physical issue that's keeping it from working well, and additional writes and usage of the disk is not a good idea.

As the other people have pointed out GetDataBack is easier to use and understand and will work perfectly for your single disk recovery attempt.
