hi everyone,
i have a damaged WD3200AAJS that just stop working, showing blue screem of dead on winXP, it had almost 150 gb of used space and I need the data urgently.
I had tried installing the drive in diferent mainboars and it always shows no name and 0Mb of capacity.
it seens like firmware blocked or corrupted.

any suggestion.?

Heads gone (common failure on these drives) or firmware problem. Refer to nearest pro.

ok I understand that it would not be easy to fix the drive, I´d like to know if theres something I can Do to rescue the important data stored on the drive

I count with special soldering tools even If i need to rework SMD or BGA components.
I have complete undestanding of schematics or FW upgrades.

On the contrary, the best way to STOP someone attempting a head stack replacement, is to show them the article.

Then you could have said something like "I would not recommend to do it yourself; see this article to understand its a difficult job"

I've seen enough guys who tried the tricks they found on internet and then hand me over a disk thats beyond reovery.
Dont underestimate what some guys will try. Nothing so dangerous but an intelligent fool.

Don't believe the hype.... Open the drive, change headstack and then the drive MUST work. You can do in the kitchen, in a garage, everywhere : there's a filter on the drive and when it will start spinning the dust particles will go away , all the sci-fi equipment and facilities where disks are produced are just part of the FUD design to make an impression on nerds ! Come on, if they make it, it IS possible

Assuming everything will be allright (1 out of 100'000'000 chance) , when you will power up the drive (AAJS) you'll know that there's................... ooooops....

This DIY thing is amazing , it makes economy runs : drives are killed so new drives are bought, people search the internet for bullsh... ehm, info, and they spend money, they buy "donors" and screwdrivers etc. so other money flows, they use their cars or phone to get in contact with DR people so more money change ownership... this contributes running the economy.
Moreover, each time a drive with porn and warez is killed, it's good for intellectual property and morality

(SMILE... bad weather today here so a laugh is needed)

I think this idea works with Cars, Homes, and just about everything else.

Unfortunately, there really isn't much you can do without the right tools, knowledge and training. For data recovery technicians, our only goal is to get your data off that drive safely. Anything that you can even try will only make things worse. Get it assessed by a pro before your sub $1000 job turns into a much more expensive project.
